"I love you and I'll always will"

Some people tell me that I don't understand love." I Y/n says with a pause at the end.
Y/n turns her head to face Devin,"You want to know the truth?" She smiles and chuckles
"I don't. I don't understand why it's the ones that we love that hurt us the most."
Y/n fell silent for a moment. "Or why it's the people who we care so much about that treat us like shit."

Devin looks at Y/n with wide eyes. Those wide eyes makes y/n want to melt into his arms but I can't. I can't because.. Because I think I'm in love with him. And being in love means I'm opening myself up to disappointment or to where I'm an easy target.

Devin sullenly looks down at the ground. "I don't understand how you can say that when I love you with all my heart. I don't want to hurt you. Ever." He says with a hushed tone. He looks up with tears brimming his eyes. "I love you. And I always will until the day I die."

At that moment, it felt as if I was flying. Hearing the words that I wanted to hear and seeing the things that I wanted to see. He was perfect. He may not be in everybody else's eyes but he is in mine. And as quickly as the feeling of flying came, it had left bc I was once reminded of reality.

"I'm sorry. But i can't. We can't. You don't know how hard it is for me right now." I say while taking a step forward. Tears are rushing down my face. He takes a step back and places his hand on my arm to keep me from walking any closer to him.

"What?" He asks confused. "What do you mean 'I can't'?"

"I mean that I know how love is. Love blinds you of what's really there. What's really there in front of your face." I say.

"No. No it doesn't. It brings people happiness and a light into their darkness."- Devin says with a sharp tounge You were my only escape out of the world I'm stuck in. The only escape from MY darkness." He says while crying. He takes a moment to wipe the tears that are streaming down his face and waits for a response. He looks into my eyes as if he's searching for an answer but can't find one. He looks down at his feet then back up to my face. He takes a step forward and leans in to kiss my cheek. He whispers "I love you and I always will" he take a step back and he waits but no to long as he can tell I'm not going to say it back once more he stares into my eyes then walks away
