Alec usually didn't mind going out, hell he even enjoyed it most nights.  As Alpha of the Crimson Moon pack he had stress filled days and liked to be able to let loose at night.  At the ripe age of twenty-eight he was expected to have found his mate and produced a couple of little pups by now, lord knows his father was on kid four by this age.  He never admitted it to anyone, not even his Beta Jackson, but he was scared.  Scared he would never find his mate, never be able to have children of this own.  Sure he could have found any human woman to warm his bed at night, and often did, but it was never the same.  The connection between mates was something that didn't compare to one night stands, there was just nothing in it for him.

Tonight felt different, something was in the air, an energy that he just couldn't quite put his finger on.  It electrified his skin and made his hairs stand on end, usually when he had this feeling something bad was bound to come around, but tonight it was different.

Him and Jackson loaded up into his truck and made their way out to the club opening.  Why their friend and owner of the club decided to open something in this tiny town escaped them, but it was their friend and it was a free night out so, why not.

When they walked into the club the feeling that had been with Alec all night only intensified.

"What's up?" Jackson asked as they made their way to the VIP booth set aside for them.

"Honestly, I don't know.  Something just feels off" Alec responded looking all around the club.

"Rogues?" Jackson scanned the room, instantly on high alert.  Alec just shook his head.

Then it hit him, the most delicious smell he had ever come across and his wolf was standing at full attention.  He didn't know what was going on, but something inside them was awoken.  He sniffed again and the smell only become stronger, then suddenly his eyes landed on her. 'Mate' his wolf growled, wanting instantly to pounce.  She was gorgeous, a small little thing, almost a foot smaller than him, with a curvy body to die for.  Her blonde hair pulled to one side, in a black dress that left very little to the imagination.  He was turned on and pissed off all at once, how dare she be on display for anyone but him.  He started to approach her with Jackson hot on his heels noticing something was different about his Alpha, when suddenly Alec stopped dead in his tracks.

There was no wolf in this little vixen, 'Human mate' his wolf whined.  Alec had never been so torn in his life.  In front of him was the one thing that he was biologically designed to find, and yet she wasn't his kind, she may not understand what he was and he wouldn't be able to live if she rejected him.

"What is it?" Jackson asked worried, placing a hand on his Alpha's shoulder.

"I found her" Alec said barely above a whisper.

'Your mate?' Jackson questioned through their mind link.  Alec only nodded.  'Why are we still standing here then? Go get her' Alec could feel Jackson's huge smile through the link.

He only responded with one word 'Human'.  Jackson's smile instantly dropped.  Jackson had first hand experience with this situation, his brother had mated to a human.  She freaked out when she found out he was a werewolf, and denied their connection, rejected him as her mate.  His brother's wolf couldn't handle it, it died, and without his wolf his brother was just a shell of a person.  He ended up taking his own life a few months later.  Jackson and Alec had been there for the entire thing, they even tried to get the girl to reconsider, nothing worked.  They were the ones to find his brother after it happened, and as Alpha and Beta they were the ones who had to take care of it.

Both men shook as the memories came flooding back, that was not something that they could stand to go through again.  'She could be different' Jackson added, 'She may not be like my brother's mate.'
