I feel like Tiana from Princess and the Frog. Always working. I work at Goody's Diner from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm then I have a 2:00 pm class and after that a fifteen minute walk from the university to my small apartment on the other side of town. Every day I have the same schedule: walk, work, walk, learn, walk, homework or tv or internet, sleep, then repeat. Unless it's summer then take out learn and replace it with internet.
I start humming "Almost There" and Adrienne (the owner of Goody's) starts singing along. When we aren't as busy we try to have a little fun. "I've climbed a mountain and I've crossed a river and I'm almost there!" I sing back continuing the song.
"You know Haley, you can carry a tune. I don't know why you're making money working as a waitress." she says when the song ends. I roll my eyes and stand back up as someone walks in "yeah right. That wouldn't pay my rent or university tuition." I seat the guy and get his drink order "you waiting on anyone else?" "yeah he'll take a water too."
"Adrienne, you and I both know I couldn't live without the diner." I wink getting the cups and filling them up. An older man walks in and sits with the customer. I hand them the drinks and give them a minute to figure out what they wanted to order. "You guys know what you want to order?" I say as polite as possible. They order the same thing and I hand it back to the cook.
See, an average boring morning. After work, because it in fact is summer, I walk home. To my tiny little apartment.
"Haley don't be late on the rent. I need it at exactly 7:00 pm tomorrow night or else!" ahh the landlord. Wonderful man, always so cheery. *cue the sarcasm*
Two hours later I'm sitting in sweatpants and random T-shirt with my hair pulled in a messy bun when I hear a knock at the door. What. I hear it again. I get up and Scout jumps on the floor running around my feet. "Scout get back, go to bed." I whisper not wanting him to get out.
I open the door, oh just Bradley. "Oh well you dressed up to see me." he says as "nice" as ever. "I didn't expect to see you again after I broke up with you..." I say glaring. "Well, I came to talk about that. See, you never gave a legitimate reason for braking up with me. And I'm not leaving until I get one." He pushes past me and scratches Scout in between his ears.
I fold my arms still standing by the door "leave Brad." He pats the space on the couch beside him and puts his arm up. I refuse his offer and sit on the chair. Bradley just stares at me for a minute and finally says and sits back "so, reasons we're over, go."
"I don't have time for this, I have work in the morning." I fold my arms across my chest. "I remember you always have work and then school. Then you were mine all night." He winks. I roll my eyes "reason one: all you could ever think about was getting in bed with me. Reason two: I'm still in school and I don't need a serious relationship. Reason three: I don't have time to fully dedicate myself to being in a relationship. Reason four: you're mean. Reason five: we fought too much. Need I go on?"
He stands up pulling me up with him and hugs me then pulls my face up to meet his. I blush. He laughs deeply pulling me closer. "Please," he half whispers, "go on one more date with me. Just one. If you still feel the same you'll never see me again. And besides it's summer, no school for you." Can I just not see you again now. "Fine" I give in, I'm going to regret this.
