Castiel loved watching Dean sleep. He looked so perfect when he slept, free from all the troubles that normally plagued him when he was awake. Well, most of the time, anyway. Sometimes Dean had nightmares. It was horrible for Cas to watch, because he would cry out for help, and scream, and whimper helplessly. It scared Castiel, but, one night, Dean's nightmares brought better luck than either of them ever expected...
Dean was fast asleep on the sofa, an empty bottle resting in one arm and the other dangling to the floor. As usual, Castiel was stood over him, watching. That was when it started; the nightmares. Dean began to whimper, tears rolling down his cheeks from his tightly shut eyes. "Please don't hurt him... Hurt me instead..." He whimpered, causing Castiel to panic.

"Please!" He begged, turning over again and rolling off of the sofa. Thankfully, Castiel caught him just in time, preventing him from hitting the floor and getting hurt. "Cas?" Dean's eyes fluttered open, and his expression changed from terrified t confused. "Cas?" He asked again. "Did I go to sleep like this?"
Castiel blushed, the colour of his face instantly resembling a ripe tomato. "No... you were having nightmares." He whispered sheepishly.
Dean's eyes went wide with fear. "Was I talking?" He asked. Castiel nodded. "What did I say?" He asked.
"Um..." Cas thought for a moment before answering. "You said something about not hurting someone. Do you want to tell me about it?"
"Yeah. I was talking to Sam. I'd told him something, and he'd said I was stupid and would never get what I want. He was hurting you, Castiel. I can't let him do that, because... I love you, Cas!" Now it was Dean's turn to blush.
"Well, I love you too." Castiel answered. Dean breathed a sigh of relief, and relaxed into his arms. The two stayed there, safe and comfortable in each others arms, until morning...
