The Red Night - Introduction

Introduction

Fire.

Smoke.

So much smoke it was suffocating. Ash was in my eyes, mouth, nose. It was a thick layer upon my skin, but I didn't let it distract me from my purpose, my goal. I ran as fast as I could, pushing myself to my limits. I had to get to him before they did. A growl rumbled through my chest, deep and heavy as I saw him fighting off too many, there was too many.

I got tackled into my side knocking me over mid stride. I landed in the dirt on my chest, I pushed myself up with my elbows and got into a defensive stance as we began to dance. I locked eyes with the wolf that knocked me, his murderous browns stared at me as he growled, his lips pulled back from his teeth, saliva spitting from them as he breathed and growled. I watched his paws as he tries to circle me looking for a weakness. I didn't have time for this, he needs me.

I sprang up at him, his brown eyes widened in surprise but met me halfway trying to get to my throat. He missed as I landed near him, I kicked his side shattering a rib. He whined and tried to snap at me again. I smiled as I punched him in his snout stunning him. I jumped at him again grabbing him around the neck and gracefully snapping it, killing him.

I didn't waste another thought on this wolf as I continued my sprint to my father. I reached him, and he was still fighting a dozen of wolves, he was in wolf form his strong midnight black wolf was wounded but he was still killing and fighting as if that giant gash in his side wasn't there. His blue eyes saw mine and growled but didn't stop me from jumping into my wolf and fighting along side him.

A wolf snapped his jaws around my hind leg, I kicked him off as a hot roar erupted from me. Without hesitation I swiped my black paw at him narrowly missing, I composed myself as I watched him and around me for the other wolves. His red wolf came at me, I jumped to the side as he clipped my shoulder sending me back. My wolf was burning in rage, I shook her as we need to be clear minded if we were to get out of this alive. She snarled at me but understood and pushed her own rage aside and focused on the battle ahead of us.

A grey wolf came at me from my right, but I saw him and ducked right under as he went soaring above, I swiped underneath him cutting his belly open. His blood poured from under him and he whined. While he was hurt my wolf charged at him biting his front leg, shaking my head side to side I felt his flesh tear away. His blood was hot on our tongue, but we wanted more. We dug deeper as he clawed at my side trying to get us off, but I didn't care. I tore through to his bone snapping it, he gave out a high pitch whine that hurt our ears.

I jumped away from him ready to jump on his back and tear the back of his neck to kill him, but the red wolf bit my hind leg again. I turned putting my attention on him narrowing my eyes, I needed to kill them quickly there were so many surrounding us. I crouched low almost on my belly watching this male wolf. He was savouring his left paw, I needed to wind him more there. My beast tensed getting ready to spring and attack quickly.

He got distracted as a different wolf finished the grey one I hurt before, it must've been someone he knew. I used this window to jump on him damaging his paw more as I clawed at it, the wolf howled in pain as I clamped my jaws on his shoulder crunching it. He fell onto his back and we both knew at that moment that he was already dead. We jumped on top of him and tore his throat out killing him.

I looked for my father again, he was off to the side and heavily wounded. His side was bleeding more profusely now, it was hard to see against his dark coat, but it covered the ground beneath him. He looked so ferocious and graceful, his bright blue eyes glistening dangerously at the other wolves, his power radiating from his wolf, making the lessor wolves cower from him. I crouched low again sneaking up on one of the wolves attacking my father, body tense ready to kill. I pounced on his back, he gave a yelp of surprise as I started to chew through the back of his neck while holding onto him with my claws, so he couldn't buck me off. Blood covered my snout as I tore through the fat and tissue. The wolf under me trying his best to get rid of me but I got to his spine before he could, and I snapped it, killing him instantly.
