Chapter One
My black paws thudded against the dirt, kicking up dust as we ran through the forest. Paws were heard behind me as I lead my warriors around our borders. The smell of the forest engulfing us reminding us that we were home out here in the forest, my beast rumbled agreeing that were indeed home.
The warriors would also agree with me, they didn't use to. They used to constantly complain and bitch about making them run hours at a time in wolf or human form. They have learned to love and look forward to running as they are able to be at one with their surroundings and their beast.
Stamina is a big part of my training regime, you need to learn how to run away before you learn how to fight and kill. Having low stamina can also lead to death if a wolf gets worn out in battle. My wolves understand this now after I stressed the importance of these runs.
The lush green of the trees and foliage always calmed me. Seeing miles, a head of me, the mountains and fields let me feel free and alive. I stopped at a clearing that had a river, so the wolves could rest and drink, it was a hot day and I didn't need a wolf fainting on me.
The clear blue of the water shined at me, winking. The colour reminding me of his eyes as they shone with that dangerous glint during battle, or with happiness after we have won. I looked away from the blue and waited for my wolves to finish their drink.
I watched them from the side admiring how strong these wolves have become in only a few years. They have grown and in muscle, showing they are a force to be reckoned with. There was ten of them with me today, males and females. It was hard to tell the genders apart as they were all so big, I don't believe in the females staying home and being good little mates. No, they deserve to have the option of being a warrior like the males. My father agreed with this as well and fought against the Alpha for the females to have these rights.
The Alpha was a good man, but he was a misogynist at heart, no matter how much he tried to hide it, it would always come out in some way or form. The Luna was no better she liked being the house wife and she believed that the females should be protected rather than doing the protecting. Because of this thinking I have made sure they do not have a say in my training and I do not have a say in their politics, it works for us.
I started running again and the wolves followed. We raced, jumped over logs or fallen branches and dived under low ones. We all knew this course by heart and no one made any mistakes or fell anymore.
My wolf haltered smelling prey, "Bucks." I whispered to the others.
We got to our bellies crawling forward, slowly and precisely so there is no noise heard. Ten metres a head of us were about two bucks and three deer's. My wolf licked her lips at the thought of getting one of them between her teeth, feeling the bloodlust coursing through our veins I knew the warriors would be feeling the same.
We lead ahead of the wolves as they circled around them, surrounding them from every side getting ready to ambush the unsuspecting prey. My beast came through and slowed our breathing, eyeing our lunch. I could feel the wolves around me tense getting ready to tear into them, but they were waiting for us to strike first. My wolf leapt up, the others following suit and tackling a buck to the ground.
