The bell rings and I rush to my locker and pack up my stuff, forgetting the small Jersey trying to keep up.
"Haha sorry" I laugh waiting up for her. We get our stuff and exit out the front door.
"Jersey!" I hear, J turns around and so do I. It was Kenneth, J shakes her head at him and keeps walking. I give him an apologetic look and catch up to her. We cross the road and start walking, pure silence, I didn't like it.
"So J" I start. I look down at her and see her closing her eyes tight looking away.
"Hey you ok?" I stop and grab her arm stopping her. I see the few tears that were managing to escape.
"Hey" I say gently. She opens her eyes and looks at me in sorrow.
"Hey your ok now" I say pulling her into a hug. She wraps her arms around my neck and starts to ball on my shoulder. I wrap my arms around her waist and hold her close.
"I'm sorry" she says letting go and wiping away her tears.
"Dont be sorry your fine, are you ok?" I ask in much worry.
"Yeah just..." She trails off wiping her tears.
"You don't have to tell me" I whisper.
"No its ok, I just had a hard childhood, and I'm just a little sensitive and emotional" she starts to smile a little.
I forgot I'm new this year so I wouldn't know about her past.
"I will always be here" I say. I'm still at a little loss of words. I have never really had to comfort anyone like this before.
"Thanks Nathan again I'm really sorry" she says covering her face with a wall of hair as she starts to walk again.
"Wanna spill?" I ask, she nods.
"What triggered your break down?" I ask, ready for her not to respond.
"Kenneth is my childhood friend and still is my best friend who really gets me, I just don't feel right when he is mad at me" she explains. I nod as I wait for her to continue.
"He overheard me tell someone we were just friends and he got mad" she says rubbing her arm.
"First of all stop being nervous around me" I say wrapping my arm around her shoulders and pulling her close.
"And second it sounds like he likes you, like, more than friends" I say.
"That's crazy" was her quick response.
"He would have told me" she says looking up at me as if to say 'right?'.
"Guys do that, no matter how close you two are, he wouldn't have told you" I explain. She looks away in shame as I tell her this.
"But don't worry your not a bad friend or anything its just in a guys nature, don't worry" I assure her. We finally get the to Conoco.
"I forgot change!" She says patting her pockets.
"Oh don't even worry about it I got you covered" I say.
"Are you sure?" She asks shyly.
"Of course J" I say grabbing some M&Ms. She gets some Reeces and I buy. She was so unsure about it but I assured her it was fine.
"I owe you" she says as we start walking back.
"Fine fine" I say. She just giggles a little bit and shakes her head.
"Um...J..." I mumble as I look up and see rain dropps starting to fall and fast. She looks up as well, suddenly she jumps up against me as a loud crash of thunder sounds. I wrap my arm around her shoulder.
"Your alright" I laugh, she tries to push away shyly but I pull her close.
"You don't have to watch over me" she starts.
"I'm your new friend, I gotta look out for you when you need it" I say wrapping my arms around her and holding her to my chest. I pull my umbrella out of my backpack and hang it over us.
"Thanks" she says with that beautiful smile of hers.
"Of course" I smile back at her, holding her close as we walk. We finally get back to the school, turns out she lives near by so I gladly walk her to her house. It was nice because she was actually smiling and happy on the way there. We laughed and joked the whole way.
"Well this is me" she says stopping in front of a greenish painted house with a dark brown roof.
"Alright" I mumble awkwardly, she hezitated to step out of the umbrella.
"Jersey..." I whisper very slowly coming closer to her, she plays along and comes closer to me as well. She smiles softly as I close the gap between us, colliding our lips together.
