I sit on the soft, white, leather coach in my suite, my sister is playing on the floor with sweet, little Mark as I wash the dishes. For the past few days, my Mom has been a total wreck, she has been in her room looking at the celling and crying for my Dad to come back. We all wish he would, but we all know it won’t happen. Before the whole thing happened, my father was my best friend, which is other than Gale, but he taught me to do everything. Hunt, cook, skin, make blankets for the winter time, and bargain for goods. He was the best father a girl could have. My sister on the other hand was always a “mommy’s girl.” My mom was her mentor for the nursing profession that she is striving to achieve. This whole thing with my mom has really brought her down. She and I have always been close, she is my little duck, and I never let a soul hurt her without me getting back at them. My mother is rattled by the whole “having to leave her home at the last second” thing, and I get that! But she needs to know that it isn’t all about her. I love her. But she needs someone to tell her what is really going on around her. I finally finish the dishes and take a little time to cool down before walking into my mother’s room to talk to her.
I walk in and sit by her bed. “Mom,” I say, “Mom, it’s me, Katniss, your daughter.” I say quietly to her. Then I notice something, she is breathing strangely. “MOM?! MOM?!” I run to the phone and call the hospital. “Hello and thank you for calling the Nadzieja Hospital, if this is an emergency, please press 1 now.” I hit the number one as hard as I can. And next thing I know, Prim is in the room. I place the phone on my chest so that they can’t hear me. “Prim, I need you to call Gale, watch Mark, everything will be okay.” I put the phone back to my ear and I hear a woman. Hello, this is Anna, how may I help you?”
“It’s my mother, her breathing is weird, send an ambulance. PLEASE!! And please hurry!”
“Okay ma’am, what is your suite number?” I had no clue, I had just gotten home the other day.
“I have no clue, I am new here it’s Katniss Everdeen.”
“Okay let me look really quickly.” I waited for what seemed like an eternity, but it was probably only 5 seconds. “Okay, you are suite 1457. We are sending one now. Keep your mother sitting up, it will open her airway. And raise her hand up it will also help.” So I did just that. I could tell it helped a lot, but not enough.
After another eternity, that was probably five minutes, they show up. I run to the door in panic. I open the door as quickly as humanly possible. They run in with a white stretcher. I follow them. They put my mom in the back of an ambulance and take off. I can see through the window that they are injecting her with some purple liquid. I get into Gale’s car, Prim stays to watch baby Mark. Gale and I rush behind the ambulance. When we get to the front desk, we are told to sit down. I don’t listen. I go past them, but someone tries to pull me back.
“Ma’am, you are not allowed in that wing, it is restricted, please sit I-.” I don’t listen I shove her into a wall and keep walking. Gale keeps telling me to stop, but that isn’t enough. Then, there is a sharp pain in my lower back. I suddenly feel woozy. Then Gale catches me. I slowly black out and then I am out. I see nothing.
