Alexander's POV
My brain didn't seem to want to shut down, leaving me laying silently thinking in the darkness. I'm....confused I guess. The question he asked just a few minutes ago kept repeating in my brain. Why did this seem to bother me so much?
Sighing-I slowly sit up-leaning my back against the head board of my bed. I look to my left at Dylan's sleeping face as soft snores leave his slightly parted lips. At least he's not hogging away like he always is. I chuckle at the thought, my smile soon turning into a frown once remembering that HE was the reason I couldn't sleep at the moment.
Staying in the room won't do me any justice. At that thought, I remove myself from the bed and plant my feet on the hard wood floor. The coldness of the canvas created goosebumps on my arms. I gradually open the door before quietly sneaking out and walking down stairs. The sight of my dad sitting on the couch watching TV makes me jump.
"Holy crap dude you scared the living hell out of me. I thought you would be upstairs asleep already."
I say with a hand rested on my heavily beating chest.
"Shouldn't YOU be asleep already?"
He retorts, popping a hand full of chocolate covered peanuts into his mouth. I walk over to the couch and take a seat next to him before answering.
"Couldn't seem to get my brain to stop thinking."
"That's a new one. Alexander Walker, the laziest person in this house not being able to sleep?"
I roll my eyes at his sarcastic statement, grabbing the bag of peanuts from his hand and pouring some into mine.
"Second laziest first off. Dylan's upstairs."
"That boy could sleep for days."
He agrees with a soft chuckle as I handed him his peanuts back.
"Yeah.."
I stay quiet at what he says, placing one of the chocolate covered treats in my mouth, the mention of Dylan's name seeming to put me in a bad mood.
"Did something happen between you two or something?"
He questions suddenly. Was it really that noticeable?
"Um, no we're fine."
I lie instinctively, uncertainty laced in my voice. He cautiously raises an eyebrow which showed he didn't believe me. Not surprising.
"Oh really?"
"Yeah?"
I respond as more of a question, a sigh I didn't know I was holding in escaping my lips.
"Listen.."
My dad commences.
"Whatever it is I'm sure you two will get over it. Whether it takes two days or two weeks, it will get better. You're Alex and Dylan, Alan. Nothing can ruin you guys' friend ship."
He concludes, resting a sympathetic hand on my shoulder. I chuckle at his heartfelt attempt to make me feel better. My dad was completely right though. We shouldn't let anything affect our friendship. Whether that means talking it out or arguing it out.
"Thanks pops."
"That's what I'm here for son. Now go get some sleep boy."
He says with a small smile. I gratefully return it, concluding my stay by giving him a light hug before walking back upstairs and into my room. Dylan was still sleeping like a baby just as he was before. I return under my covers, snuggling in and finally drifting off to sleep.
