Lily visited my dreams again that night.
Only this time, she was sitting in a dungeon cell. The beautiful blue dress from before was dirtied and tattered at the hem. She sat on the wooden bench, and I saw the tear streaks on her cheeks, but she wasn't crying in this dream.
No, she was working and twisting a hair pin in her hands, making some sort hook out of it, and singing an old, bittersweet lullaby.
Oh, where has my sweet love gone?
Oh, where has my sweet love gone?
Will her love carry on?
Oh, will she ever come back to me?
Oh, will she ever come back to me?
Will she ever hear my plea?Yes, I know my sweet love is gone
Yes, I know my sweet love is gone
Her love will never carry on
No, she will never come back to me
No, she will never come back to meMy love will never hear my plea
For she has gone away from meThe guard outside her cell let loose a large snore and Lily smiled. She carefully picked herself up.
And just when she was reaching the hook through the bars of her cell, I was rudely awaken from the dream.
I lurched up into a sitting position, my hair falling around my shoulders, and nearly collided with Caleb leaning over me.
He backed away, "Good, you're awake, princess."
Caleb had given us shelter in his tiny shack for the night, although he hadn't been very happy about it.
Celeste was still asleep next me, looking heavenly even in her sleep. I rubbed at my eyes and yawned. Caleb was already dressed and ready to leave. He bustled around the fire and table, cooking something that smelled wonderful on the fire.
He glanced over at me, settling a pot over the fire, "Bad dream, princess? I heard you muttering and tossing in your sleep."
I crossed my arms, "Not bad, really. It was about my sister."
"You have a sister?" He asked, glancing over his shoulder at me.
I nodded, "I only just found her, we were separated at birth. Her name is Lily and I miss her dearly."
He nearly dropped the piece of meat he was cooking over the fire. He spun and stared at me.
"Lily? Her name is Lily?" He looked as though he was seeing a ghost.
I frowned, "Yes, why?"
Caleb shook his head, "I thought it was just a coincidence, but now... I can't believe it..."
"I don't understand." I said, "Do you know Lily?"
"What?" It was like Caleb couldn't hear me at all.
