Whilst daniel was struggling through the Korean scrub, back home jade and Amelia are sitting in the counsellors office. As a distraction from Amelia's fears and concerns, they are playing a game of monopoly together. Amelia rolls a seven and gets a chance card.

In the car on the way home, Amelia is looking out the window. Schools just finished for the day, and she sees all the different students around in uniform.
"I had a dream last night mum." She says absentmindedly.
" what was it about?" Jade says
"Well, I dreamed that I forgot who dad was. He came home and I didn't recognise him. After that, I dreamed he had died and years later, I'd forgotten him." Amelia curls into a ball on the seat. Tears are streaming down her face.
"Sweetheart, even if he died, we would never forget him. He's done so much for us, and this country. Nobody would be able to forget him, ok?" Jade says.
"I know mum. I'm just scared of losing him." Amelia sniffs.
"We won't lose him, he's more than capable of surviving this. He will come back to us, I promise." Jade says.

Daniel had made it past the advancing Koreans by a total stroke of luck. The only issue now was he couldn't stop moving or they'd catch him. He figured he couldn't be far away from friendly lines. His leg was still bleeding, and he was starting to feel dizzy and see spots. He came into a clearing and saw a group of soldiers at the other end. They turned towards him, and that was the last thing daniel saw. He hit the ground hard. The soldiers ran across to him.

Daniel was stretchered away to a hospital. His leg was patched up and some scratches on his body cleaned and bandaged. Over the course of his escape from capture he had lost almost two litres of blood. His wound was infected, and he was on a course of antibiotics. The doctors were closely observing his recovery.

Amelia's first day back at school since her dad left had come. She was sitting in the car with her mum, looking at the school gate, absentmindedly fiddling with the hem of her dress.
"Would you like me to come in with you sweetheart?" Jade asks, noticing the tension in her daughter.
"Nah, I'll be right. I'm the daughter of a soldier remember?" She says, not looking at her mum. "Facing school is nothing compared to what he's facing."
She opens the door to the car.
"Cya mum." She says.
"Bye sweetie. I'll be here after school, ok?" Jade says.
"Righto". Amelia walks away. Jade notices the spring in her step is gone. Jade has a sudden feeling creep up on her. 'Somethings not right' jade thinks as she pulls away from the school. Over in China, the war takes a turn for the worst.

The Koreans had launched a massive assault in a move to take full control of China and its massive production facilities. In the assault, several thousand allied soldiers were taken prisoner, with only several hundred killed. The allies managed to move their wounded before china was taken, with Russia opening its borders to accommodate them. Daniel was moved to a hospital in Moscow, where he could be better treated for the infection in his leg. He had still not regained consciousness.
