I pulled my cherry red crop top over my head, yanking it down. It fit me snuggly, it's thin straps showing off most of my arms and a little sliver of my stomach. I examined myself in the mirror, looking back my high ponytail, high waisted jeans and black high top converse. I looked presentable, and decently badass.
Hopping down the stairs, I called out to my mother. "I'm going to a friend's house tonight. Don't expect me to be back until late," I stated plainly before slamming the door shut behind me. I hopped into my shiny red car and started the engine, rolling towards Richie's house to pick him up. The sun was shining in my eyes, so I put on my jet black ray bands, letting out a sigh towards the bright noon sun.
I hadn't mentioned to him that we were going to meet Ashton's Australian friends today, but I doubted he'd mind. After our fight he seemed to be up for anything I threw his way. We had had one ice cream movie marathons, gone to the dog park twice, baked a cake, and played fifty seven games of mancala since we had made up, and he didn't seem bored in the slightest with whatever I said. Frankly, I didn't care much what we did either, as long as he was there to do it with.
Anything I could do to make him stay an extra hour was worth it.
I pulled up into his driveway, Richie already waiting on his driveway for me to pick him up. He slid into the passenger seat, a wide grin on his face. I smiled back at him.
"Hey Jess. Where are we headed to today?" Richie asked in a goofy voice, wiggling his eyebrows.
My smile fell as I remembered, once more, that I hadn't told Richie where we were going tonight.
"Uhm, you know that kid Ashton? That I'm friends with? Australian? He moved here about a week ago?" I asked hesitantly.
Richie nodded, a smirk toying at the sides of his lips. "Pretty boy?"
I rolled my eyes at his statement, "yes. Pretty boy. Well some of his friends are coming over, and Allie invited us to go meet them. So we're going to go meet Ashton's Australian friends."
Richie groaned, "I have to be around more than one pretty Australian boy?? Do they just kind of fucking sprout out of the ground or some shit?"
I nodded very seriously, stifling a giggle.
"Yup I'm pretty sure that's how pretty Australian boys are made."
Richie threw his hands up in the air, jokingly exasperated.
"I fucking knew it."
I laughed at his stupid joke, pulling up into the driveway Allie had told me belonged to Ashton. Richie looked at the house skeptically, as if trying to uncover a secret it was holding.
I slipped out of the car, pulling off my sunglasses and sitting them down before approaching Ashton's house, Richie following close behind me.
I knocked on the door, Richie just over my shoulder.
"You look really nice, by the way," he whispered into my ear as the door opened. And looked back at him quickly, a smile on my face before turning towards the front door.
There Ashton stood, a giant smile on his face and an Allie at his hip.
"Hey Jessie! Hey Jessie's aggressive friend!" He pulled me into a quick embrace and patted Richie on the back as he shook his hand.
"It's Richie," Richie stated plainly, not seeming amused by Ashton's joke. He was acting fairly cold. Richie did that when he was uncomfortable, but I had a feeling he would probably warm up to these boys fairly quickly.
I had never seen Ashton grin as wide as he was in that moment. He must have really missed his friends. It was nice of them to come and visit him here in America.
