I ran from Maggie's, tears blurring my vision. Everything had hit me all at once as I had sat next to Leo, Vivian, and Maggie. It was so overwhelming. I watched the extent they were all willing to go for me and the guilt was too heavy to bare. How could I let them risk their own safety for me? Especially now that we knew that my so-called "guardian angel" couldn't even protect me. If another spirit couldn't defeat Ariana, nor any living person, then I knew nothing could beat her.

I felt so ashamed that I had run out like that. I don't know why, but I ran toward the cemetery. As my crying slowed down, I rubbed my eyes and realized I was in the middle of old headstones. Most were cracked and tilted to their sides, having partially come out of the ground over time. It was slightly overcast outside and dark gray clouds loomed overhead. I would have kept running, but my legs ached, just like the rest of my body. I was mentally and physically exhausted.

I tried not to look anywhere except straight ahead, but being surrounded by such old headstones gave me the creeps and I felt a chill run down my spine

I tried not to look anywhere except straight ahead, but being surrounded by such old headstones gave me the creeps and I felt a chill run down my spine. A slight breeze hit my neck and I swatted at it like a fly. Wrapping my arms around myself, I was suddenly incredibly cold. The wind picked up and rustled the trees. I brushed my hair from my face and carefully took each step.

"Everly..."

I heard a voice call my name, and as much as I wanted to believe it was the wind, I knew better. I picked up my pace only slightly and didn't respond.

"Everly...Did you think you could fight me and WIN?"

I ignored it. A strong wind came at me, blowing leaves and dust all around. I narrowed my eyes and hugged myself tighter.

"EVERLY!"

I stopped. Planting both feet in the ground, I screamed, "What do you want from me?!"

Ariana laughed a shrill cackle that sang along with the wind.

"I told you not to play any tricks! And you went and tried to find a way to fight me?"

I shook my head. "No! I didn't! I said I'll join you, and I will! I told you to wait until Sunday!"

I started walking faster and was hit with a wind so forceful that it pushed me back. My hair whipped across my face, blinding me.

"LIAR! You think I don't know what you're up to? I know everything, Everly!"

I tried to run but barely moved against the wind. I pushed myself, taking large steps, and shielded my face. The leaves around me started to lift up and go in all directions, and I swatted them away.
