annalyse,
"hey, dinner is ready. if you're hungry" my dad popped his head in the door.
i smiled. "vale"
"okay." he smiled. "o-kay" i smiled.
he nodded and left.
i smiled proudly at myself.
i got up and walked down the stairs and into the kitchen.
"uh, what is this, again?" i asked.
"burgers" mason said. didn't ring a bell to me.
heard the word before, never said it, don't know what it means at all.
"hamburguesa" my dad said. "i've never, never heard of it.." i said.
"looks like you'll be trying something new tonight. i think you'll like it" he smiled and handed me a plate with a weird looking food on it.
"she's never seen this before?" i heard them talking. i think cameron said that.
"seriously?" mason said.
"guys, she's lived in cuba her whole life. she has never seen some of the things we have here" my dad said.
"bet you guys don't know what yucca is" i said sitting down.
they all looked at me with confused faces.
"i'm sorry what?" jack asked from beside me.
"yucca" i smiled.
"dad, can you translate that?" jack asked.
"i've, i've got this" i said stopping my dad.
i turned to jack.
"a plant of the agave family with stiff swordlike leaves and spikes of white bell-shaped flowers that are dependent upon the yucca moth for fertilization, found especially in warm regions of North America and Mexico." i said hoping i got every word right.
he looked at me wide eyed.
"what?" mason started laughing.
i smiled, laughing along at jacks face.
cameron was laughing too and jack was shook basically.
"i'm really confused, here" jack said not laughing.
"you are a blonde." i said looking at his hair.
"okay that's mean" he said.
"dad never said i had to be nice to you" i said.
"i love her" cameron blurted.
i smiled at him.
"she's pretty great isn't she?" my dad asked.
"yeah, i thought she'd be like really girly and stuff, but i haven't seen her on her phone once since she's got here." mason said.
"i don't have a phone." i said.
all three of them looked at me with widened eyes.
"what?" i said.
i don't really know much about phones but i'm guessing its weird i don't have one to them.
"you don't have a phone?!" jack exclaimed.
"no" i said.
"how did you talk to dad then?" mason asked.
"my mom has a phone." i said.
"why don't you have a phone? literally every teenager does." jack said.
