Chapter 7

Liar Liar

* * *

(Ayush)

I could feel the deadly synchronization between my heartbeats and the tick-tick of my wristwatch. The actions of old man, the black blood, already terrified the life out of me. I had to struggle to hold my pieces together.

I could see him through the flaps of the wardrobe. His mask fell off, all of a sudden, and a face full of scars and bandages appeared, thick lips and shaved bulky cheeks added misery to his appearance. The fact that I was hiding in his private room, without his knowledge, scared the guts out of me.

What if he suspects my presence?

 A sudden phone ring broke the silence, and I saw him walking to the phone in anger. He was probably in lots of pain, as there was so much blood loss. Black Blood.

"What do you mean-" he shouted, "-he is hiding here? Hiding who, who's this man...err...you think this is funny, Romil?" I could see his tensed face.

"Fine...fine!" He examined the room like a vulture and I realized they were talking about me on the phone, "So where could he be hiding? The palace is so big and we can't disturb the elders and priests for such a small thing. What do you want me to do, err..err...run a fucking search party at this hour?"

The other man on the phone, Romil, was trying to argue with the old man.

"Of course he is here to search something, and we will find out once we catch that mother-"

There was a knock on the door, and another man rushed in. He wore a black cloak, and his face was hidden in the shadows. The room lit brightly with the lamp he brought along, but he stayed mum.

"Lord, just a minute, please!" The old man bowed slightly before the cloaked man and asked his permission to continue the call, "Yes, the lord is here, and I'll be going with him to search this little rat, and you keep a close eye on the gates. If he is here, then I assure you, he won't go out alive."
