The Story Behind Her

I Do

"I do."

Whoa, whoa. Rewind. How'd we get here? Well. Amber and I had started planning our wedding soon after I had gone back to the doctor. We thought something cute would be good. Not too formal but not so crazy my mother would disown me. We decided that we would make our own lights and table pieces. It was perfect we used mason jars with lightning bugs as our center piece and light bulbs with the twist-in part cut off with flowers inside as our overhead decorations for the outdoor venue where we would speak our vows before the "I do"s.

Amber's vow was perfect.

"Cole, before I met you my life was a mess. The day you sat with me, I was planning on ending my life. But I didn't because I could tell that you cared. And that was my sign not to, because you were there to care. We've been through a few hospital visits, some fights and a shit load of bad dreams. But all the moments before this have lead up to this. Here we are, getting married. My scars and yours for the world to see. I love you with all of my heart, Cole, and I don't know what I would do or where I would be if we had never met."

She had me in tears.

I guess you could say mine was a bit more manly.

"Amber. You are the one person whom I've trusted with my darkest secret and the facts about my life half the people here who know me don't know. We've been through a lot in the last year, and I'm glad that I went through it all with you. Our family's are so different. Mine's a mixed race family with foster children and your family is sophisticated. My family say's grace and yours doesn't. But those differences are what make us who we are and I'm glad I found you when I did. I'm in love with you Amber, and because of that love I'm on cloud nine and I don't ever wanna fall back to the earth."

And then the officiate went on with the rest until we got to our special part.

"Do you Cole, take Amber, to love an to hold, till death do you part?"

"I do."
