Heat and panic rises in my body as I remember the days when I was trapped. When I thought tomorrow wasn't in my future. A vivid memory makes a false presence in front of my eyes.
8 year old Danielle
I rise my body off the floor from crying for hours and look around for the 7th day in a row. I'm in a large dirty bathroom with water leaking from the ceiling. Am I underground? There are four doors beside every corner of the area. There is only one window which is on the right wall but located near the ceiling. The window is about the length of my knee to my leg with a width precise to that. The window is 12 feet above my height.
"MOMMY" I scream.
"SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. I'VE BEEN HERE FOR ABOUT A WEEK"
My best friend Ava and I had asked to go to the local park in our neighborhood. I was yelling across the park to Ava that I could climb up and slide down the slide in 10 seconds. I started climbing up the ladder of the slide quickly but fell on the third step of it. "Make that 20 seconds Ava" I yell. I turn my head at Ava and notice her talking to a girl.
I decide not to make jealous take the best of me and make climbing and sliding down the slide my own personal goal.
The slide is pretty high for an average kids liking. However, I didn't care. I felt that now since I was eight I could do this with ease. I lick the blisters from my hands that I got from climbing the monkey bars and started my journey of climbing the slide..again.
Sweat swished through every kink and knot in my hair. I was tired, but excited to feel the wind whistle through my hair when I slid down. I'm halfway up the ladder when I hear screaming and laughing. Ava is having so much fun without me. Skip her I have eight year old things to accomplish.
When I reach the near end of climbing up the ladder I fell the other end of it shaking as if someone is climbing up as well.
"Yeah don't try to have fun with me now Ava stay seven years old and chase around your new best friend." I say letting envy take over me. Ava has always been more social and prettier while I remained smart. Just smart.
I turn around wondering why Ava haven't replied to my remark only to see an old man with fair skin and green dark eyes. His eyes show evil and hunger.
I scream.
I'm unable to move my body to run as the man grabs me before he even reaches the last step of the ladder. He jumps off and runs with me in his arms. I violently throw my arms and legs while being held. Most of my blows hit him in the face. I can tell he's getting anger from each hit, but I don't care I want to go home! I'm screaming, yelling, and pleading for help. The man punches me square in the face leaving me with a world full of darkness. My body numbs up as I feel a needle pinch my skin. I hear loud yelling and running footsteps of Ava and her friend as I'm carried away.
