I didn't understand Kiara. And not just because her mood fluctuated faster than she could speak, but because she only seemed put off by me. And only around other people, it now seemed. Not that she was faking it. She definitely didn't like me.

We'd meet up with some of Marks friends, people she's never met before, and she'd be fine. Happy to hold a conversation with them. And then, she stands near me and she bickers and screams like a toddler. I didn't understand it.

And yet, my subconscious backhand kept making me stand next to her. Talk to her. Film her. Just let her know she was part of the group instead of pushing her away.

I kept watching her. We were filming a few videos today, and even though she was off camera, head shoved into the screen of her laptop, dusty orange headphones on, I was just looking at her. The shine of her dark hair and the way it fell over her shoulders softly. I'd never seen it fall on her face and I wondered if it defied some law of physics to get that way.

"Ethan, Pay attention, you dipshit." Mark pushed my headphones off my head and I looked at him. Dipshit seemed more of a Kiara word than a Mark one. Chances are, he picked it up from her. "We are filming videos here."

"Sorry."

"You've got the hots for Kiara, don't you?" Tyler asked, nudging my shoulder from the other side of me. He had also taken off his headphones like this was some kind of intermission.

"Fuck no." I could feel the redness in my cheeks, which probably didn't help my cause.

"You better not." Mark was actually threatening, and with how much he just wanted to protect his baby sister, I wanted nothing to do with it.

"Fuck no. You've met her. You know what she's like. She's a fucking monster."
