Chapter 2...Revelation

A raven haired beauty latched herself onto Adrian's arm, “where have you been I was looking all over for you? Now come on it’s the last dance” she whispered huskily.

Adrian allowed Victoria lead him away and he wrapped his arms around her and looked into the eyes of his girlfriend. She smiled up at him and shifted closer, he smirked but couldn’t help thinking about the girl he’d just seen.

The raw hurt he’d seen captured on her face just before she fled was something no girl should be feeling, especially one who’d looked as innocent as she did.

“Adrian?” Victoria’s small whine bought him out of his thoughts “you’re staring into space. Shouldn’t you be looking at me, after all you are dancing with me even if you’d rather be somewhere else you’re here, with me, your girlfriend.”

“Vicky if I didn’t want to be here I wouldn’t be dancing with you right now would I?” he answered easily, but he couldn’t help feeling a bit irritated, it confused him. Since when did Vicky irritate him, he loved her…didn’t he?

Tiana climbed into her bed knowing that her stepmother Cornelia  would be furious but secretly gleeful that Tiana had missed the last dance, she’d didn’t want Tiana to show her up, but Cornelia didn’t want Tiana enjoying herself either.

It was a never ending spiteful battle but Tiana was on the brink of exhaustion, the emotional turmoil of the day had tired her out and she would rather just deal with her stepmother’s tantrums tomorrow.

Tiana reached up to trace the designs on her mother’s locket which she had worn since the day her mother had died. She frowned as her fingers met empty air, she sat up to see if her chain had twisted round but found no chain. With a sense of dread she ran to the mirror desperately hoping that she was wrong.

The feeling of emptiness filled her and she felt lost as she lay in bed. It was like she was a little girl again, lost without nothing or no one to turn to.Her mother’s necklace had always comforted her when her mother was no longer there to do so, it had been there to remind her that she was loved and it gave her the strength to carry on when everything seemed lost.

The necklace was the only thing that Cornelia had not been able to take from her, her stepmother had taken her mother’s belongings and burnt them, she had taken away Tiana’s childhood, happiness and love but most of all she had taken away was Tiana’s father.

He was the only person she had left in the world, but he had also been twisted by Cornelia's lies and tonight at the ball Tiana realized that she really was truly alone.

Tiana drifted off to sleep, her tears still glinting on her cheeks. Suddenly she was in the gardens, she could hear someone sobbing and she followed the sound to find a girl in an ivory dress crying behind an oak tree.

Tiana opened her mouth to call out to the girl when she sensed someone coming up the path, she turned and watched as an incredibly handsome boy made his way over to the upset girl but at the last minute he hid in the shadow of the tree, a twig snapped under his foot and the girl looked up. Tiana gasped as she realized that the girl was her. She watched herself back away and then run.

Tiana stayed and studied the boy who was hidden by the oak tree, he looked her age yet his broad shoulders and height added to his handsome chiseled looks, made Tiana catch her breath. He looked up and stared at the place where she was now standing and Tiana froze, but after a moment he turned away and crouched over the place where she had seen herself crying.

Tiana realized he couldn’t see her and she carried on watching only to see him pick something off the floor. She realized that it was her mother’s locket and she watched helplessly as he dropped it into his pocket and then go back to the ball room.

Tiana sat up in bed gasping, she was covered in cold sweat and she shivered as cold air blew in through her balcony window. She realized what she’d just seen and she knew it was true; she needed to get her mother’s locket back from the boy. But she didn’t even know who he was, she’d never even seen him before this night, but she was determined to do whatever it took to get her mother's locket back.
