Emery's POV
She ran all the way to school, since she missed the bus. When she got to school, she was only a few minutes late, so she didn't get detention or a late pass. She awkwardly walked up to the teacher, introducing herself, and praying that he wouldn't introduce her to the entire class. Just her luck, he did.
"Class, this is Emrald-" the teacher had started, but she cut him off.
"Emery.." she mumbled.
"Potatoe, pototoe,' he said, patting her back. "She's new, so show her around a little, make her feel welcome."
There were a few giggles, snickers, and 'ew''s throughout the classroom, but she ignored them. She walked over to an empty seat by the window and just kept her head down, looking at the window. She had a few spit balls spat at her, and crumbled up pieces of paper thrown at her, which had writing on them but she didn't read. When the bell rang, everyone sprinted out of the classroom and to their next class, her being the last one out.
Alex's POV
This new girl was really weird, he thought. Eric walked up behind him.
"What a freakshow, right?", he asked, snickering. Alex just laughed and nodded and continued walked as Eric went to talk to someone else.
'Freakshow is right,' he thought to himself. He saw her walking in the hallway and looked at what she was wearing. She was wearing worn down and ripped skinny jeans, a plaid button-up shirt, old Converse, and a tie or wrap or whatever wrapped around her neck.
He cringed at the sight, and walked past her into their Spanish class. Times like this he wish he weren't in this class.
He walked over to where he usually sat ─ which was in front of Eric, to the left of Devon, and behind Tonya. He looked over at the new girl, who sat down in an empty seat by a window and sat with her head down, but still paying attention, for the whole period.
He took a few seconds during the period to observe her features. She had light skin ─ probably Irish. She had a few freckles on her nose and some on her cheeks. Her hair was a brownish color, with a little bit of red, and really curly. Her eyebrows and lashes were the same color, and her lips were a bright pink.
Alex didn't really like her, though. He found her annoying and lazy. He would be embarrased to even be seen with her... Little did he know, this would all change very soon.
