The day of our anniversary was the day you really, truly broke my heart. You wanted to take me to a bar. I wanted a quiet night in. You called me insane, asking me why the hell would I prefer staying home? We got in the car anyway. You should have let us stay home, though.
Because I had found out. I had realised there was a name for what you did. Gaslighting.
I didn't get out of the car when we arrived. Instead, I tried to talk to you about it and you called me crazy. You slapped me. You said I could never leave you, or you would kill yourself. I walked away anyway. Then you said you had never loved me. That you were just using me for convenience. I was too afraid to do anything but run.
I wish I had known what you were doing earlier.
