Chapter 2: Inside the Bramble patch [Rewritten]

The refreshing aura of the brambles made you feel comfortable, but that didn't give you a reason to not still be wary of the place, it was still suspicious nonetheless, so you kept your guard up.

Surveying your surrounding, the large walls of vines, various colors of flowers, the place was littered with rocks of all sizes, and the sound of splashing in the distance. Wait... splashing? Then that could only mean...

...Water!

That had definitely caught your attention, you began to make your way to the source of the sound, stopping in front of a river of fresh, cool, bright blue water. A smile etched it's way to your lips. But you needed to test the water and see if it was safe enough to drink, dipping your hands into the water, your hands weren't melting or anything bad, you let out a relieved sigh. You took out your canteen and dipped it in the water, refilling it entirely.

You stopped suddenly when the water began bubbling from the other side of the river, you slowly stood up and began to slowly walk back, trying to avoid whatever was emerging from the water. Although curiosity was getting the best of you, you had to look back.

Emerging from the water was a giant bright grey hippo. you stayed frozen in your spot, never had you witnessed a hippo that large before. (Even if you've never really seen one, only read up on the species. it is the desert after all) This was a silent opportunity to record this creature, if you ever got back to the Oasis (Which you highly doubt), you could show your friend.

Reaching towards the satchel at your hip, grabbing a hold on a journal, you kept your gaze on the large animal as it munched on something. Taking a few steps forward to get a good look at it, you opened your journal and held your pencil that was tucked in between pages. You scribbled a sketch and a few notes and questions like;

'Are these species larger than regular hippo's?'

'I may have discovered a new species'

'What do they eat?'

You set your journal down on the ground slowly and inched your way towards some tall reeds. Grabbing hold of a few, you whistled, grabbing the hippos attention, they stared at you as you held their gaze. You stepped closer towards it, holding out the clumps of reeds in your hand, "Hey, there", you spoke calmly, "I mean you now harm, so you don't have to attack or anything, in fact...", you shifted your hand with the reeds held tightly in your grip, the hippo looked down and moved towards you, tilting its head slightly before finally opening their mouth.

You smiled and threw the reeds in the large creatures mouth, they happily clamped down on the plants. While they ate, you walked back over to your journal and began writing down an obvious fact; 'The animal is an herbivore, obviously. Guess their size makes it intimidating to be considered a carnivore to one who's none the wiser'

You closed your journal and stuffed it in your satchel. You looked up as the large hippo ate happily, maybe they could let you pet them! Walking up to them holding out your hand. Your eyes brightened when they sniffed your hand and inched close to you, accepting your touch.

That was until there was a snap, you whipped your head to spot the source of the sound, not finding anything, but whatever it was spooked the hippo causing them to snort.

You turned your attention back to them and the next thing you knew, a blast of water smacked you in the face, you screeched, holding your hands out to stop any water hitting your face or getting into your mouth.

Once it stopped, you spotted the hippo snort out a few droplets of water from their nostrils. Your jaw dropped, you looked down at yourself and then back up at the hippo that now paid you no mind, splashing back into the water and diving in.

'Did it really just do that?'

This book is long over due for a rewrite! And since I lost creativity for the Jake long x Reader book (Not discontinuing it, it'll just go on hold until I get some inspiration back) I thought why not start on this books rewrite. There'll be more chapters that will be added that'll focus on Reader's development, her personality, and her relationships to those close to her rather than shoehorning it all in one single sentence. Which means more cute, fluffy, and tooth-rotting moments between Reader and Nomad! It's gonna be a slow burn romance and chapters will be written much longer (Hopefully) so be prepared and patient. Chapter three's rewrite might be up until Sunday, so look out for an update. See you guys later in the next chapter!
