You know those moments where you feel like you're dreaming but it's actually happening? The ones where it seems like it's too good to be true but it's not? Well on possibly the most important day of my life, I was having one of those moments.
"We're done," The boy (aka one of my best friends) on the table said. Yes, I mean on the table.
"Done?"
"As in we're through. I'm breaking up with you."
"Excuse me?" Hailey, the girl in question said in a low threatening voice. Although it wasn't loud, it still echoed throughout the deathly silent cafeteria. "You can't break up with me. I'm breaking up with you!"
He jumped off the table with a huge grin on his face. "You can't, I just did. And you can't do anything about it." Then he left the room, leaving Hailey and the rest of us frozen with shock. The entire cafeteria burst into chatter. Well, me? I was still stunned as my other best friend, Bree and I walked out the doors and into the hallway.
"What just happened?" Bree asked slowly, a giddy smile materializing on he face.
"He dumped her. He actually dumped her." I said, grinning widely. Hailey was someone who just loved to torment me and Bree. She had started dating Ivan a few months ago but then he dumped her after finding out she was using him to get to us. Served her right.
"'Nobody ever dumps Hailey Willows? Yeah right," Bree scoffed. "That was awesome. Where is Ivan? We need to talk to him."
"Liked the show?" Ivan asked wryly, walking up to us.
I rolled my eyes. "What do you think?"
"I thought so." He was smiling but his eyes were sad. He must have actually liked her. Bree raised a questioning eyebrow at him. He shrugged. "I thought that maybe she really did like me and that there was more to her than I thought. I guess I felt that she was-"
"Different?" Bree asked gently. "Hailey treats everyone the same way, even her friends. I don't know how you thought that but I'm sorry that you got caught between her and us. You're not that badly hurt, right?"
Ivan shook his head. "Nah, I shouldn't hurt over someone like her." He grinned evilly. "Besides, it was fun watching her face when I announced it in front of everybody."
I laughed. "I couldn't agree more."
Bree looked at me and Ivan. "So Kaya, Ivan, you guys wanna hang out tonight? Midnight Sky at seven?"
I shared a look with Ivan and shrugged. "Sure, why not? It's a Friday anyway."
Ivan glanced back at a group of girls who were whispering and eyeing him. They were probably talking about the break up. He rolled his eyes. "Alright, I should get going. My last class is all the way on the other side of the campus."
Bree and I waved goodbye to him and then looked at each other. "Do you really think he's fine?" I asked, watching Ivan's retreating back.
Bree shook her head. "Why do you think I wanted us to hang out tonight? He wants to feel alright but he's not. I mean who would be after someone just used you in a relationship?"
"Yeah, you're right," I nodded. "But come on, we have to get to class." Bree and I had the same last period, History.
She twisted her silky brown hair into a ponytail, sighing. "History is so boring."
I snorted. "That's an understatement."

By the time the bell rang, our teacher Mr. Haner nearly put our entire class to sleep. I yawned as Bree and I headed outside. "That was one of the most boring lectures I have ever listened to."
