Developing Ze, the Writer of the Pure World

Background: This was a rewritten scene from when Jayna first "started" out as a warrior. She wasn't the legendary warrior yet neither did she know that Ze is the Writer. This scene probably took place when Jayna was 12/13 maybe, before the war with Oberon even. Domo was still in human form and there were no complications between the characters.

Ze reached out and grabbed Jayna's arm. "Why are you avoiding me?"

Jayna pulled her arm away and spun around. Ze saw uncertainty in her eyes and he felt a pit in his stomach. He did not know that this would happen. He did not write this. Whatever Jayna had been doing the past week was out of his control and the scariest thing was that he did not know why.

He controlled the Pure World. He planned everything – from when the flowers would bloom and what everyone would do. He was the Writer. He had created this world from nothingness. He had always thought that there was a glitch with his powers, that maybe he was not strong enough, whenever Jayna would do something unexpectedly unplanned. It was only recently, he realised that she told a story of her own – one that he could not write.

The phenomenon had scared him initially. But now he had come to terms with it. Jayna was different and he just had to deal with it. He was so used to a perfect planned story, a perfect happy ending. He was just living in a dream. With Jayna now, he felt that there was more to write for. Every story would be written with a possibility that it would play out differently.

He was okay with it. Then he started realising that Jayna was avoiding him.

"I don't want to talk to you," Jayna walked past him. She could be rude and stubborn at times, but she had many other traits that made up for those.

"Jayna, please. We barely knew each other. I wanted to be friends," Ze looked at her hopefully. He was not used to talking to people. He usually hid out in his room working on the story and only interacted with the characters when he really needed to. Furthermore, he had never spoken off-script.

"Then why don't you just write it down in your fancy book and make it happen?!" Jayna retorted.

Ze was taken aback. How did Jayna know about the book?! How did she know that he was the Writer of the Pure World?!

"You're a LIAR, mister ooh-I-can-tell-the-future clairvoyant!" Jayna was being sarcastic and mean but she did not care. "And you've got Domo covering up your lies too! I'm sure even he is under your spell. YOU'RE A MIND FREAK, ZEHART MISCHARIA! Y-YOU CONTROL EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS AND-AND I DON'T WANT TO BE CONTROLLED!" she did not realise that she was shouting until she saw Ze cowering under the amour.

She knew who I am, Ze thought. His mind raced to find himself an excuse to turn things around. But he did not want to lie any further. He wanted Jayna to find out the truth about his powers, but not this way. He wanted to be the one to tell her. He felt that not only was she different, she was special.

"I'm going to tell Domo!" Jayna said.

"Tell me what?"

Jayna jumped. Domo was standing under the arch.

"I heard shouting out here and decided to check it out." He folded his arms. "And why is poor Ze cowering under the amour of Dimitri?" He raised an eyebrow in Ze's direction as Ze straightened himself and stepped forward. "Now, Jayna, care to share?"

"He is a mind controller!" Jayna pointed a finger at Ze accusatorily.

Domo laughed, amused. "And why so?"

"He controls everything we say, everything we do and everything THAT HAPPENS EVERYDAY! And I'm sure he's controlling you right now to think this is all very funny!" Jayna gasped.

Domo stopped laughing. He looked serious. "So I guess you know that Ze here is the Writer,"

Ze nodded and Jayna was surprised. "Wait. You know it too, Domo?!" she asked.

"I am very sorry—" Domo started but Jayna cut him off.

"YOU KNOW ABOUT IT AND YOU HID IT FROM EVERYONE?!" Jayna was clearly furious.

"Only you," Ze said softly.

"You made everyone lie to me." Jayna felt hurt shoot through her chest.

"In the others' defence," Domo said carefully. "Do you remember anyone telling you that Ze is a Clairvoyant?"

Jayna thought hard. No one really talked about Ze. Except Casey telling her that he resided in the darkest corner of the castle and always stayed in his room unless something big was going on. "You did the introductions, Domo. You told me he could see the future."

"Indeed, I did, and I'm truly sorry I hid this from you, Jayna. I didn't tell you the truth because we both feared you might not accept this." Domo said sincerely.

"Wow." Jayna paused. she felt her anger and hurt fade slowly, replaced by a new feeling. A feeling of awe. Legendary Domo, Defender of the Pure World, was apologising to her. That was a great honour. "You said sorry to a warrior-in-training. I'm am impressed,"

Domo smiled. "Casey did tell me your mood changes very fast," he raised his eyebrows.

"Case did that?!" Jayna gasped.

"He certainly did," Ze said. "I remember writing that line three days ago on page 3862..."

Jayna turned to look at Ze. She did not know how to feel about him, or the fact that Domo was okay with him controlling the story. "Domo...so you're, okay with Ze writing our lives?!"

Domo walked towards her. "You have to know that everyone plays an important role in this academy, Jayna. You might not know it yet but Ze plays the most essential part not only in this academy, but in the whole world. You have to learn to accept that we are a team, no matter what anyone might tell you. We are Domo's Academy and we work together."

Jayna exhaled. "I will try to accept Ze's ability, Domo. I...I am sorry to cause you any trouble..."

Domo smiled and gave Jayna a pat on her shoulder. "Train hard! And I am here if you need to talk,"

With that said, he walked back to his office.

"I know it's crazy, but I was also sorry to let you think I was a clairvoyant. In some ways, it was true..." Ze said.

Jayna turned to him. "Ze, I don't know how everyone else just accepts that they are bring controlled by your story but I still cannot and I wouldn't want to be your puppet,"

"I understand..."

"Wait! You wouldn't want this whole episode to happen right?!" Jayna realised that Ze wouldn't create this part of the story by getting yelled at. Was someone else controlling the story too?

"That's what I want to tell you Jayna," Ze held his hands out in front of him. "I couldn't write your story. You can control your own actions and speech. You write your own story."

Jayna frowned. "This means that you can't control me?"

"I do not like the word 'control', Jayna. I did not control our friends. They were free to think whatever they wanted and do what they wanted when I was not writing the story. But I guide the major and main events of their lives and made sure everything went well."

"That's cheating in life isn't it? Having happy endings and smooth sailing journeys?!"

"Things wouldn't be that good, I could assure you. Which is the reason I did not let myself develop strong feelings about them in reality. Sometimes, I have to write bad things. Because life is a challenge,"

Jayna tried to understand, but her brain was still thinking that being everything in this world was a set-up – nothing more than a television drama gone rogue.
