Happiness shows its ways  Yuuki's POV

Kyo said that we'd be there soon, we still haven't arrived. I can tell that Winter is getting more sick by the second, she tends to show a lot of emotion to herself but not to others. Typical.

Whatever, I feel annoyed if anything. I could have opened that plaster casing by myself, and he always tries to be around me, I can handle stuff on my own, I'm old enough right? It shouldn't be a problem. I roll my eyes before concentrating on the window. The scenery outside is so beautiful, the tall green trees, long lush grass and slightly grey sky, I love it. I want to be beautiful like that. Instead I'm a teenager.

I think I over exaggerated on how long we'd take because we pulled up to a house with a garage within ten minutes. We were split up into groups of three. Group 1: Me, Ren and Kyo. Group 2: Winter, Loki and Haru. Both assigned to scout out any building we come across and gather any resources. The town was infested with Zombies, taking extra caution we took them out as silently as possible, we didn't stray too far from the RV but instead checked out a convenience store around the bend. It had a lot of stuff left over.

My backpack was hardly full. It felt too light to be carrying around. Although, this did leave an opportunity for me to gather supplies. There were two packs of batteries that I took right away, there were also sanitary pads which I though Winter might like because I don't know, women use them I have no use for them. In addition to all of this there was also a medkit packed behind the counter, didn't have much in it, few bandages, medical tape, alcohol wipe things.

These items did make my bag heavier, there was deodorant and shampoo and I obviously took those, personal hygiene is important during the apocalypse, I don't want to end up smelling like many other humans will after a week of no showering...

Speaking of hygiene, I'm pretty sure it was Winter who made me anxious about it because she'd always ask if she smelt bad and she never would, it's weird to think about now but it got me thinking if I did and made me too aware. Thanks Winter.

Backpack almost half full; I begin to choose items wisely. The other two had already snuck off to the small array of hats which they were trying on each other and laughing. Thanks alot guys...
I just ended up packing a few more cans of beans and sweetcorn, they are easy to make, plus you can eat sweetcorn cold.

Getting bored, I told them that I'd be keeping watch outside. I leaned up against the wall and sighed. So much work, I'm not used to it, I never went out when I was at home, beach day was an exception, they promised me chicken and I got it. Looking around me I see trees that were just flowing to the rhythm of the wind, it made me feel at ease, although I never go out in it, nature has always calmed me down. Smiling to myself made me feel like I was doing something wrong, who could smile in the face of the new world. Yuuki fucking Castello that's who.

"Oi, Yuuki, stop slacking off, let's go back to the RV. Check out the house, clear it out and make base." Ren says to me as him and Kyo exit the shop. As he said, we made our way back, killed about four or five zombies on our journey. I felt kinda badass.

"Okay, I'll go in first, hold back 'till I call you guys in." Kyo explained before having to kick the door in to open it. I guess that will have gotten the zombies attention if there are any inside. We waited for a little bit and about 4 minutes later we were able to come in. Yet, Kyo didn't look too good. "Um...there's a dog...in the cage, I think it's still alive." He says to us hesitantly as we walked in. This news got me really excited, a dog! But then I was brought down from my high as Ren said it's probably been bit or something bad.

Ignoring Ren's claim I walked past and headed over to the cage. Indeed there was a dog. From the coat, it seemed like a Buranese Mountain Dog, it sensed our presence. It's tail slowly dragged across the cage flooring as it smelt the air, recognising the human sent. The dog turned it's head towards us, we all fell silent as we were captivated by the longing sadness trapped in its eyes. The low whimpers that resignated from the dog caused us to freeze and stare. It was in pain. It was hungry, thirsty, tired, alone. I can't imagine how this dog must be feeling.
