The crisp night air hits me as I walk home with a bounce in my step. I'm so preoccupied with what this night has brought me that when my skin crawls I shake the feeling of being watched off. I feel invincible as I walk through the dark lit neighborhood.

Could anyone have ever guessed how important this point in my life would ever be? I am so enthused about my mission now with Lotus Industries. I may not be helping people exactly, but I am helping monsters. Monsters that need a place to live. Monsters looking for a cure. My world is turned upside and I can't help but love the excitement of it. A new sort of fire is burning inside of me. I understand that Pamela's warning should have alarmed me. I guess common sense isn't my strong suite after all.

A noise flits behind me, like a gentle breeze or a shadow moving against the calm night. I turn to look for the sound when suddenly a figure appears before me, moving at an impossible speed for the eyes to track. He reaches out and grabs my throat and lifts me into the air.

"Little bird, little bird. I can't wait to taste you. But first... what business do you have at Lotus Industries. Do you work there? Tell me... what happens there?" The man, or rather, creature, asks. When I don't respond, he flashes his fangs at me.

"I don't know what you are talking about." I rasp out.

"Sure you do." The vampire responds.

"I'm just a custodian." I tell him. He lets out a humorless laugh.

"Then I have no use for you." He moves close to me, preparing himself to bite my neck when he pauses. He takes a sniff around me. "What is that peculiar aroma you are emanating?" He asks me. "Why... you almost smell like dead fish. How odd." He says. "Oh well, I'll enjoy you anyway." He moves towards my neck again, sharp fangs protruded from a slanted mouth.

Just before he latches on to my throat a white wolf appears. The vampire is forced off me by the impact. The vampire lets out a hiss as the wolf snaps its jaws around the vampire's arm. The vampire lets out a cry of pain as he tries to dislodge the werewolf. But the wolf holds firm. Suddenly the vampire's veins begin to glow, just like the one I had seen in the video feed. Then the vampire explodes, raining myself and the wolf in its gooey mess.

The wolf turns to look at me, her blue eyes latching on to my own. Eyes that are so familiar to me now I wonder how I could have missed it. The wolf heads towards a tree and I watch as she transforms from the wolf into Valerie Ortega. The nearly full moon lights her creamy white skin. She hurries behind the tree, when she returns out into the moonlight, she's wearing a simple black dress. Blood still clings to her skin as she walks towards me.

"You saved my life Valerie." I tell her as I step forward to meet her halfway.

"So, you know then?" She asks as she pauses in her steps. "What we do at Lotus Industries?"

"Yes." I tell her. Valerie give me a dazzling smile then takes in a deep breath. We both take a step forward.

"Will you–"

"–be my boyfriend?" She asks me, giving me that shy smile that I love so much.

"Yes. Yes, I will. I love you Valerie Ortega." She reaches out and touches my cheek.

"I love you too Todd Martin." I can't stop the bright smile from spreading across my face. As if the smile is contagious, one that mirrors my own appears on Valerie's face.

So, my girlfriend is a werewolf.

I can handle that.

She reaches in to kiss me, but pauses as she looks at me, a question in her gaze.

"Something is different about you. What are you?" She asks me. I take in a deep breath as I prepare to tell her my most kept secret. Only Tony and Peter knew about my condition. I had to be brave now though, and tell the woman I love what I am. It is the only way we can truly be together, by giving each other the truth of what we are.

"I'm a zombie. And I've been dead for five years." I let it all out in a rush like the words are stumbling over each other.

"I figured." Valerie replies with a coy smile. She leans forward and places her lips against mine. Then she pulls back to look at me again. "I don't care if you eat brains in your cherry pie Todd. I still love you."

"Good." I say with a grin.

"Besides... we can work on a cure for that." Valerie whispers with a shrug of her shoulders.

I smile against her lips as I kiss her again.

Maybe I would take Lotus Industries up for finding a cure. It would beat sneaking off to the morgue to eat dead people brains.

I would love not having to eat brains again.

"That would be great." I tell her.

And it would.

It most definitely would.
