Chapter 5
At dawn my internal clock forced my eyes open and I clambered out of bed still in the clothes from last night, feeling disgusting and groggy. I showered and changed quickly before I filled a bucket with cold water and poured it over Amelia “AHHHHHHHHH!” she screamed as she shot out of bed making me bend over laughing “WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!” I just laughed harder at her anger “are you TRYING to kill me?!” she exclaimed, shivering.
“I DID tell you that you needed to be up at dawn and that was 20 minutes ago” I looked at my watch “and now you only have 10 minutes before you need to be downstairs or you don’t get breakfast.” With that she was up and out of bed, I guess food is her biggest motivator, good to know.
I headed downstairs as she showered and made a smoothie for each of us and then watched the time and once 10 minutes had passed I poured her smoothie down the sink and drowned my own, 5 minutes later she came bouncing down the stairs in her work out clothes “let’s go” I walked towards the door.
“What about breakfast?”
“Your 10 minutes were up 5 minutes ago. Now let’s get going or are you planning on missing lunch as well?”
“GAH! I’m coming! I’m coming!”
I jogged on ahead of her and she had to run to catch up, we jogged in silence at first but after a minute Amelia’s whining began “come on Dan-“
“It’s Dad.”
“Ok, ok” she groaned “can we please stop now?!”
“No.”
“Just for a little! Come on! I’m not like you! I’m not a machine!” She cried but I ignored her and ran faster and then turned to face her, jogging backwards.
“You can stop if you like but all I know is that as soon as I get home I’m going to get some lunch and I’m not waiting for you and I don’t know if you’ll last until dinner if you ask me, since you missed breakfast and all” I shrugged, turned back around and continued to jog.
“Uggh!” she groaned and tried to keep up with me “you’re not very understanding you know.”
“I thought we’d established that the day we met? Now shut up. The less you talk the less oxygen you use up and the quicker we get back” finally she stopped talking and ran the rest of the way in silence, once we got back to the house I made my way into the kitchen and Amelia collapsed on the ground, breathing heard.
“I hate you” her voice was muffled as she spoke into the floor.
“I don’t care” I replied simply and put some bread into the toaster and made some eggs “foods ready!” I shouted once everything was done and Amelia dragged herself off the ground and climbed into one of the chairs at the island as I placed a plate of food in front of her. Even though she was starving she ate slowly, I remember the first day with Bloom was exactly the same and no matter how much I tried to shove food down my throat to quench my hunger my body wouldn’t go any faster than a snail and everything around me seemed to be moving slower as well. “So” I began as we ate “what was the first thing you did when we came here?”
“Umm…unload the car?”
“And what SHOULD you have been doing whilst you were doing that?”
“Umm…” she hesitated before she just shrugged; I rolled my eyes and sighed.
“Map out your entrances and exits. It’s the first thing any spy should do when they enter any room.”
“Oh.”
