Chapter 4: The Hospital

04/05/XXXX

"MOM!" William screamed at the top of his lungs, tears falling upon his face like endless streams.

William's body shivered. He proceeded towards the mirror, reaching towards a certain light he thought to be so close to in that moment. William turned the mirror light off, leaving darkness in the washroom. His breaths became heavier and heavier until his collapse into an unconscious state. His mother rushed in soon after and the shock immediately struck her. She then ran to the phone to dial 911.

4 Years Ago...

Night cast its shade upon the sky that evening. William was in a mattress his mother and father had set up next to Daniel's bed. The two were laughing and talking when they were supposed to be sleeping.

"Tell me a story," Daniel requested.

"Okay... uh... I don't know any," William confusedly replied.

"Make one up," Daniel smiled.

"Okay. Once upon a time there was a teacher who disgusted everyone because... um... she was extremely hideous. There was one time where she dropped an apple on the ground in the school playground and everyone thought the apple was cursed. Nobody touched the apple because they didn't want to get cursed. It stayed in that same spot for days and months, rotting. Finally, uh... some guy decided to touch the apple and once he did, he was overcome with strong feelings within his body and he exploded!" William told his story excitedly.

William carried on with his story, and although the story was bland, Daniel loved it. There were few times when the two fought, and even if they did, they would come together in the end.

William and Daniel's father approached then knocked on the door and in a few short seconds the door burst open.

"Both of you be quiet and go to bed!" Their father exclaimed.

"O-okay. Sorry!" Daniel apologized.

After their father had closed the door and went back to bed, William and Daniel laughed with one another.

The memories consumed William. He would soon awaken to the sad sounds of his own tears.

04/06/XXXX

William awoke with a start.

"W-where am I?" William asked, his mind still not fully in tact.

He looked around to see several pieces of medical equipment and he immediately knew where he was.

"It's only hours after your collapse in the washroom. Your mom told me everything on the phone and I rushed here," William's father explained as he sat by William's side.

William's mind was fuzzy. "What happened earlier?"

William's father calmly recalled the events of the night. "You collapsed in the washroom according to your mom. When you fell you sustained some damage as you hit the floor. You have some scrapes, but you should be fine. Your brother on the other hand..."

"Daniel..." William whispered ever so softly.

Strong emotions came over the two. William looked up towards his father and saw his fist clenched and his masculine figure break. He knew what he wanted to do. He would go see Daniel.

"Can I go see Daniel?" William asked his father.

"I'll go ask the doctor," William's father responded as he stood from his seat.

William's father turned and walked to the doctor. The two talked and the doctor immediately frowned, but ultimately decided for it. William's father turned to William and nodded.

William walked into Daniel's hospital room with his father following behind. He immediately saw his mother by Daniel's side, crying her heart out. She was overcome with despair, for she knew there was nothing she could do. The machine by Daniel's side displayed a straight green line, meaning that his heart had stopped beating. William rushed to Daniel's side and got down on his knees. He held his head on the bed in which Daniel lay still.

"Daniel..." William cried, his emotions overcoming him.

William lay his head, engulfed by the memories they shared and how they would never share a momemt together from then on.
