The viewing and the burial where the worst parts, Nicole stayed by the coffin both days, she would sit there and look at her, her eyes sad and broken, she was pale and wearing all black. Before they closed the coffin she kissed her forehead as I held her, she turned in my arms and sobbed into my chest harshly her whole body shaking with tears and pain, she was repeating no over and over. I kissed her head and wiped away my tears as I pulled her close. Once in the cemetery was where the hard things started. It was where she and her family cried the most, her legs gave out on her and she fell in front of her grave, she refused to let me help her up, she touched the plaque and kept looking at the ground, refusing to leave as it poured rain on us, we where the last two to leave. Her father told us to go to his aunts house for some soup and hot chocolate.
"Baby." I whisper gently. "You've got to eat." I say and kiss her cheek, it killed me to see her like this.
"You know, this is what was like when you left her." Her older brother tells me while we watch her eat, out of all the people in the family she was the closest to grand-mère Emma. I look at him.
"Was it?" I ask feeling like the biggest piece of shit any man can be.
"Yeah, it was horrible, Olivier. Don't hurt or pretend to be dead again. I will find you and then it won't be pretend, understood?" he asks and I just nod still contemplating her.
(Its short! sorry!)
