I stood in the middle of a cleaning waiting for my friends to catch up. All my life I have loved camping; the sweet smell of leaves and the chitter chatter of my furry little friends remind me of my childhood with my parents. I had always been outgoing but this was the first time I have been so far from home.
The glitter on my black scarf irritated my neck, so I tugged my long black hair from under it and took it off. As I stuffed it away into the bag that felt like brick on my shoulders, I noticed the laces on my ranger boots were untied. "I can't afford to have another fall and embarrass myself twice in one day;" I'm dropping all my bags with a thud, I knelt down to tie them. In the corner something glistened. A gem perhaps or a lovely coin! It glittered red. I straightened myself and walked towards it. The silver Earth beneath my boots crenched as I creeped towards the fuery gem. It called me closer and I knew I wanted it. I didn't know if I would get into trouble for taking what was not mine, but I knew I wanted it. Reaching to the gem, I saw it wasn't what I thought it was. It was glowing with warm gold light and it was much bigger than I thought. The rock was veined with merlot lines meadening over the surface. "Now I really wanted it! Why was this mysterious object pulling me to itself?" Once the tip of my fingers were immediately over the rock I gasped to see that it wasn't a rock or gem at all, it was a shell! A broken fragment of a shell.
"Jung Ji-Yoon, where are you!?" My friend's voice boomed through the dense trees. I whipped my head round to see where she was; I didn't want to see my shell. It was safe, she had not found me yet.
"Quickly take it!" I thought to myself and turned to look at my price. It was gone I fall on my knees I drug into the ground with my nails: nothing. "Did I imagine it ?" Maybe I hit my head when I fell earlier. "No, I definitely saw it, I just need to find it again."
"Ji-Yoon!" I heard again. Deciding to come back later in the night to look properly, I pulled myself up and walked to find our camp. "Where did the shell come from?" It seemed magical to me like a fairy tale at my finger tips? I looked at my nails and saw the same ruby red. "Wait! Did I just imagine the shell? But what about the gold glow and the patterns? No, it was there for real, I know it!" Then it occured to me that if it was a piece of shell then surly it must have been an egg once, with a real life animal in it! Was it a magical animal, or maybe even an evil one!
