Another common mistake I see on Wattpad is writing one character's action after a different character's dialogue.
The action or sentence that comes immediately after a dialogue is called a "dialogue tag". It is used instead of "said" or "asked" etc.
For example:
"Run away!" Alex pumped her legs as fast as they could go.
"What do you mean?" Gabe arched an eye ridge at her retreating figure.
"Run, dummy!" Rile clouted him on the head as he ran past .
See how I did that ? No asked or said.
HOWEVER
There are those, many of y'all, mixing up the dialogue tags. For example:
"Run away!" Gabe arched an eye ridge at the retreating figure . "Run dummy!"
Rile clouted him on the head.
See? It looks like Gabe said it. You have no idea who DID say which lines.
I'll write more later if this needs further explanation.
Dedicated to
Avian_HeartNot because she does this but because she suggested I use my own characters on these examples
