It's strange how much you can change in a year
And scary what you can build when you're filled with fear.
It begins with shame that came when you did what your so-called god forbade.
That's when you start to scratch and you just can't patch all the holes you made.
Soon you're found out and they're filled with doubt, 'cause they can't trust you anymore.
So you're sent away, while your mother prays, crying on the floor.
And your dad feels so bad because his little girl's gone,
While you get pills for your brain that just numb the pain so you can try to go on.
But then you meet her and it feels like your world has turned around.
There's something about her that's got your head in the clouds and you can't seem to come back down.
Now all the pain and hurt you felt at first that had once seemed so vile,
Turns to something new and soon you're through with all those years of denial.
There's nothing mundane about what can change in a year.
And it's beautiful what you can build when you're filled with fear.
