Kaycee POV
We had just travelled down the highway and reached a dark foggy road. I stared out the window.
"Do we really have to drive down this way?" I asked.
There was silence between me and my older brother. So far for the entire way. I had been asking every now and then whether we were at our destination or not.
"Are you really not going to tell me where we're going?" I whined like a 5 year old but he only laughed at me.
"I told you it's a surprise. Just because it's your birthday doesn't mean that I'm going to tell where we're driving to."
"Fine, but do we really have to go down this road? There must be another road to get there James."
He knew that I was afraid of the dark even though I was 16 now; there was just something about the dark that I just didn't like. I didn't know what it was. All I knew was that we had been driving down the road.
"Jayy I don't like thisss." Ever since I was little I would always go to James so he was used to me complaining like this."It's alright, while you've been complaining the entire time we drove right through those woods."
I pouted. "Please don't tell me we have to drive through those woods again."
"Don't worry we can just take the highway home."
Around an hour went by and we pulled over to get gas. I always get bored just waiting in the car when it comes to gas stations. I normally don't use my phone at the station for obvious reasons. James used to always tell me and my sister, Emily, that if we used our phone or if any of our devices were on that our car would explode. Of course, at the time we thought the car would actually explode. The silence had been cut by the sound of my stomach attacking me. I hadn't eaten this morning and I was really regretting it.
'Jay wouldn't mind if I went to go get a snack right? He was just inside paying I could go get something to keep me going for 3 or so hours,' I thought to myself.
"Where are you off to Kaycee?" James had finished paying for the gas and had seen me walking in.
"Just buying a snack. Want anything?" Knowing Jay he would want something to eat too.
"Don't bother buying a snack from here, there's a cafe just around the other side of here." I simply nodded at him and we made our way over there. Our stop wasn't too long but we got back onto the road. Like most long car rides it got boring and I was getting bored."Jamesssss."
"Yessssss," he replied mimicking my childish act.
"Do you have an aux cord anywhereeee?" James just giggled.
"In my glove box." I just beamed up and rummaged through the compartment.
"FOUND IT!!!" I immediately plugged my phone in and went to one of my playlists. I hit play and started singing. James smiled and decided to join me. Hours flew by and before I knew it I fell asleep.
"Kaycee. Kayyyyy. Wake up we're hereee." I was woken up to Jay's soft voice. He knew that I didn't like being woken up. Rubbing my eyes, I sat up from my seat and looked around.
"Are we-?" I got out the car to take a quick look at our destination.
We had parked outside of a house. It wasn't big but it wasn't small either. It sat up high on a cliff where you could see the ocean softly moving. I took in a deep breath. I always loved the smell of the ocean, and the way it sounded when it hit the shore. The beach was pretty much like my second home. The wind hit my face but it wasn't too cold; it was the nice warm kind of wind. I turned to admire the view from the edge of the cliff, making sure not to go too far over the edge. After a while of admiring the place, I ran to give Jay a hug and thank him. It reminded me of my holiday home before the accident.
