Chapter 6
He has come
The next morning, Abigail woke up and walked out onto her balcony. She looked down at the village. She didn't want to wait, she wanted to go look around the village. She was so excited, that when Zander knocked on the door she was already dressed.
"Abigail, are you up?" Zander asked as he walked in.
He immediately looked over at the bed, expecting to see her there, but she was not there. Then he looked around the room to see where she was at. Abigail walked into the room from the balcony.
"Yup, I'm ready, but can we go to the village first, before we go to the market?" Abigail asked as she ran to Zander.
"Oh.... yes, that sounds alright with me," Zander said playfully. "In fact, I love that idea. Okay, come on let's go to the village first."
They both walked down the stairs and out one of the many doors that led to the front courtyard.
Abigail and Zander walked down the dirt road that led to the village. It was a beautiful day for a walk. Abigail stopped beside the road to pick wildflowers and then ran after the butterflies that crossed her path. When they got close to the village, Abigail grabbed a hold of Zander's hand and would not let go.
They slowly strolled through the streets of the village. The sights and sounds of all the people were so exciting, but a little scary at the same time. Soon, they passed by a stand that had beautiful dresses for sale. Abigail stopped for a moment. She fell in love with a red dress that was hanging out in the front of the stand, separate from the others.
"Do you like it?" Zander asked.
"Yes I do, I love it!" Abigail answered. Her eyes had a sparkle in them that Zander hadn't seen before.
He smiled. "Okay, you wait here and I will go get it for you."
"Oh, no, you don't have to get it for me!" Abigail exclaimed, looking alarmed.
"Yes I do, you don't have any clothes, besides the dress that you are wearing, and the king and queen want you to have some nice clothes. You can't wear the same dress every day. You live in a castle and you are around royalty now!" Zander replied.
"Hey you, did you just say you know the king and queen?" a voice asked. It came from behind Zander and Abigail.
They both turned around at the same time to see who was talking to them. It was Ike. He had been following behind them the whole time since they had entered the village. He was looking for Abigail, but he didn't know that the girl he was looking for was standing right in front of him.
"May I help you?" Zander asked, as he swung his arm in front of Abigail to protect her.
The stranger answered him, "Yes, you may. I just so happened to have overheard you talking to this little girl. Do you know the king?" Ike asked Zander.
Zander didn't answer his question and began to feel uneasy as the man's eyes went straight to Abigail.
Ike started thinking to himself. His eyes never left Abigail as he knelt down to her height and looked her straight in the eyes.
Then he said quietly, "You know, you are way too pretty to be a peasant girl," then he smiled at her.
She didn't like the smile that he gave her, so she stepped back behind Zander.
"In fact," he continued, "I have never seen red hair before,"...He looked at her thoughtfully, "Ummm... RED HAIR!!!!!"
The smile left his face and it suddenly went pale, like he had seen a ghost. He leaned in closer to her and then he got up. He looked at Zander and gave him a big smile and before Zander knew it, Ike had grabbed Abigail's arm and was pulling her away from Zander. Then he began to run, dragging Abigail along with him.
