Background Information

A/N: Hey guyssss. Welcome to Ignite, the story that's been floating around my head for a bit. This is some precursory information about the kinds of things living in both the monster and human realm. It's not too important to read, but reading it will help clear up some questions. If you ever have any questions, though, leave me a comment. Anyways, rambling aside, welcome and I hope you enjoy.  I also have the first chapter up and the second one should come soon.

 (This is like the history and about the characters. It's kinda important to reading the story but whatever, it's fine. You don't have to read it if you want.)

General stuff about the things in the monster realm:

Every species except the elementals can be identified when they are little, as they all have traits of the species.

All the species fully come into their species when they turn 8 and receive their spirit.

All species capable of finding their mate are given the ability to find them when they turn 14. A mate can be found at a younger age, but only mates who are in close proximity to each other. Some people can ignore the call of their mate though.

Spending time away from their mate, causes pain if they have identified each other as their mate.

Time in the Monster Realm is muuuuch slower that the time in the Human Realm. So when the main characters are born, it's about the 17th century. But when she is in the human realm (rip it's a spoiler), the main character lives in present day (2018 if you read this in the future).

Species (idk what to call them, sue me):

Monster Realm:

Demons: Demons are the highest ranking of all the species in the monster realm. They have the ability to shift into their primal form or stay in their mock form. In their mock form, they possess human features and are also able to suppress their strength to match a human's. In their primal form, they retain some of their human facial features, but they grow horns, wings, and a tail. (Listen I know this is really basic. Humor me) In primal form, their strength greatly surpasses that of a human; Demons are the strongest of the royal species. Demons in both their Because of their strength and regal appearance, the king/queen will always be a Demon. The royal consort may be of any race. They preside over the central kingdom, in the capital. Demons find their mate when they reach the age of 14, as do vampires and werewolves. They find their mate through sight (as in, when they meet the eyes of their mate, they immediately know whether they are mates or not). The royal family can be distinguished by their startling shades of blue eyes.

Werewolves: Werewolves are the second of the royal species. They too have a human form and a lycan form. In lycan form they possess the power to gain traits of wolves and even the ability to shift into a lycan. As a lycan, they resemble a normal wolf but are a bit larger and have scarier eyes. Werewolves are the most physically strong out of the three royals species. They preside over the northern kingdom, the woodlands. The northern kingdom is the coldest of all the biomes in monster realm. Werewolves seek their mates out based on scent.

Vampires: Vampires are the third of the royal species. They do not have the ability to shift between two forms; rather, they spend their lives as a vampire. Vampires look like humans and require blood to sustain them. Vampires are the only species that ca n turn humans into their species. These humans-turned-vampires are aptly named turned vampires. Since the government doesn't want a population overrun by vampires, strict law have been put in place regarding the amount of people vampires can turn. The amount of magic in a vampire's blood relies upon both their ancestor purity (how much of a pureblood vampire they are) and the quality of blood they drink. A vampire can be of pureblood but drink cow's blood and still be as impotent as a halfblood vampire or a turned vampire. Similarly, a turned vampire who drinks human blood can be as strong as a pureblood. This is the reason why vampires drink human blood and forego animal blood if they have the choice. Humans are only valued as either slaves or blood slaves. Vampires drink from blood slaves until they find their mate. Vampires find their mate through their mate's blood. They utilize the scent of blood to locate their mate, but can only be certain if they drink some of that person's blood. Vampires rule the southern kingdom, the kingdom closest to the human world, for obvious reasons.

Sorcerers: Literally think Harry Potter, but stronger. Pure sorcerers are prized for their raw magical ability and ability to enchant objects. Sorcerers, contrary to common belief, do not need nor use a wand. Sorcerers are given an affinity, or element, that they can specialize in. At birth, a sorcerer's affinity is decided to suit their appearance and personality. An affinity offers a wider range of elements that can be used than an elemental. Sorcerers find their mate through their magic; it calls them towards one person. Sorcerers rule over the eastern kingdom, the kingdom most aligned with the core of the monster realm, meaning the area where magic is enhanced the most.

Elementals: there are four kinds of elementals: earth, fire, storm, and water. Each elemental possesses a spirit of a past elemental or creature with the ability to wield the elements. Each elemental can ignite, or harness the full power of their spirit. In their ignited form, they take on the features of their spirit (for a dragon, a tail horns and wings, etc) and their eyes glow dark color. They don't usually possess the power to ignite until they turn 12, but when threatened enough, children, once they receive their spirit, are able to ignite. The 'ruler' of the elementals is chosen by their spirit. The strongest spirit for each of them are hydras, dragons, wyverns, and leviathans, respectively. Historically, the strongest of these four is proclaimed the king or queen. All elementals except the fire elementals inhabit the western kingdom. Fire elementals grow up in the volcanic plains in the far west until they are taken to be slaves. Elementals themselves are incapable of finding their mate. Their spirits inherently know who their mate it but don't act upon it unless explicitly told by the elemental.

Human Realm:

Humans were sent to live here in exile because it was thought to be an uninhabitable area. The humans from the monster realm overpowered the indigenous species of 'human' and made the human realm their own.

Humans: You. Are. A. Human. Human know of the existence of the monster realm but have no affiliation with the crown and live in their own society. Humans, in fact, haven't had contact with the monster realm since the time of the ancient Greeks, who personified them as the gods.

*In the human realm, there are species from the monster realm who move, are put in exile, or run away and make a home here. Children of these species are raised the same as human children.*
