Since Mariah and Dick started going out we haven't really talked. With graduation coming up I've been focusing on life after high school. I applied to some colleges but they are the same ones Mariah did. So I've been looking at other options. I've been talking to an army recruiter for a few weeks and honestly I think I might just enlist. I really want to get out of here. I need to get out out of here. I was walking to my truck after school when Mariah came up. "Hey stranger!" she waid playfully. "Hi" I replied. "Where's Dick?" "He had to see a tutor today." she answered. "Ok so what do you want?" "I want to talk to you." "Why?" "Why are you being so mean?" "Why does it matter to you what I say or do?! Since when do you care anymore?! Just because Dick is busy you need your second choice to talk to?" "What do you mean second choice?!" "Nevermind it doesn't matter." "No tell me what you mean!" I snapped. "I love you! OK? I have since the first day you moved here. You just never noticed." She stood there quietly in shock. "I was your best friend and you were mine. I was so in love with you it wasn't even funny. But you were too stuck on Dick which is probably fucking the girl tutoring him right now." "Don't you say that about him! It's not true." "Open your eyes! Of course it's true!" "Why do you hate him so much?!" "Because he just uses girls. He makes them think he loves them and as soon as he has sex with them he dumps them. I don't want that to happen to you." "That's not true! You're lying!" "I'm not lying! I didn't tell you before because you looked so happy and I didn't wanna ruin that even if it means me being miserable. I love you and I care about you. I dont wanna see you hurt." We stood in silence looking at eavh other both with tears in our eyes knowing this is the end. She broke the silence. "No, no! You're lying!" "Fine dont believe me! But when you see the truth and need someone who actually cares, I won't be there." "What the fuck are are you talking about?" "I'm joining the army Mariah! I leave the day after graduation. Not that it matters to you just thought you should know that. But it's not like you care." She just looked at me. "I gotta go I don't wanna hurt you with anymore 'lies'" I got in my truck and drove off. I watched her crying in the mirror as I drove away. Even after everything it still hurts to see her sad. I wanted to die. It would hurt so much less.
