2. Stares Can Burn Your Skin

Today was the first day of school. I was so worried! I don't know how people will react or if I will even find any friends.

I decided to wear my black skinny jeans, dark blue v-neck shirt, and my black vans. Since I didn't wear makeup I didn't have a problem with that.

"You know you don't have to go right? You can leave when your mom drops you off."

"I have to. And that's bad. Why would I do that?"

"Umm maybe. . But I am just telling you because you seem nervous"

"Kennedi! Hurry up or you're going to be late!" My mom yelled

"I'll be down in a minute" I yelled back. I took one last look in the mirror just to check if I was dressed correctly, I don't want my underwear on top of my pants now do we. When I got into the car I felt like I was shaking.

"Don't worry sweet pea it's gonna be okay" my mom held my hand, "I bet you will make a lot of friends you'll fit in just nicely" she smiled as she kept her eyes on the road.

She stopped the car right in front of the school. Her eyes soften as encouragement. As I was walking out I felt like everyone was starring at me. Their gazes were burning holes into my skin. My breathing quickened and so did my heart beats. I put my head down to try and ignore them. I went to the office to get my schedule. The lady happily handed it to me. I heard some snickering behind me that just made me more paranoid. I tried to quickly walked away.

"New girl!" A girls shrilly voice yelled. I stopped and turned to her. She was dressed in a pale blue skirt, white blouse, and red shoes. Her hair was a clear shade of brown and up to her shoulders but she had dark blue eyes. "Hey welcome!" She smiled

"Hi" I softly said

"Hi I'm Andrea."

"Kennedi"

"So kennedi can I see your schedule?"

"Um sure, but I didn't see it yet" I handed it to her

"Oh we have English and history together!" She handed it back

"That's nice" I faked being happy for her sake. The warning bell Rung.

"Bye see you later" she walked away

"How is school?"

I couldn't answer with so many people here. I debated wether or not to go to the bath room and answer or just head to class. The bathroom was full so didn't get to go. I ran in late into class.

"Your late" A my new teacher's voice boomed. I was already shaking and now that he brought the classes attention to me I was shaking even more. "What's your name?"

"Kennedi Valdez" I quietly said

"Well Kennedi since it's your first day your left with a warning. Well then go sit next to. . ." He scanned the room, " next to Lana, Lana raise your hand" she did hesitantly.

She was completely different from the other girl, Andrea. She had grey skinny jean, black t-shirt, and boots on. Her hair was long black wavy hair and brown eyes. She just looked at me then back down.

"Hi"

"Hi" she bluntly said

It was lunch and I didn't know anyone to sit with. I sighed. I tried looking around for Andrea but it was no use. I spotted an empty bench so I sat down.

"I'm bored!"

I can't respond to him. I frowned.

"Wait try like writing it down maybe I can see it or something. I don't know I saw it on your tv"

Maybe it did work? I quickly took out a note book that had so far no use.

"I am too! I am sitting alone at lunch :(. And so far it sucks"

"Loser" he laughed

"Shut up!"

"You should ditch"

"What is with you and ditching?"

"I use to do it a lot"

"Oh"

"Who are you writing to kennedi?" I heard a voice behind me. I turned it was Lana. Her bangs fell to her eyes when she looked down to my notebook.

"No one I'm just scribbling down some words you know" I began to ramble

"Well you wrote 'I am too' so it must be to somebody" she smirk

"I was talking to the girl next to me in my English class."

"Oh okay sorry for being nosy. So can I sit here?" She pointed to the spot next to me

"Sure" I nervously smiled

"You're the first person to move into that house"

"What?"

"Your house"

"Oh how so?"

"A guy that use to go to this school died there" she looked at me, "I forget how he died but he did and he's ghost is like there. All I can remember from the story was when the parents found out they bawled there eyes out and left the state"

"How do you know there's a ghost?"

"Because in freshman year some dude went in and ran back out crying" I have no idea how this make me feel.

"Oh"

"Yup so you should invite me to your house"

"Why?"

"Do you normally ask a lot of questions? And because I want to see if there is a ghost"

"Okay"

"After school Ummm meet me by the front gate I guess"

This day was long. It seemed to drag on. All the classes made me do a freaking 'who am I' interview. All my answers where short and quick. I shook my head at the thought if embarrassing myself in class. At the front gate Lana was already there.

"Good I thought you ditched me" again with the ditching?

"I wouldn't have" I said as we began walking

"I thought you might. I thought one of the school's fucking preppy shit faces might have told you 'stay away from that Lana chick she is a casket case' which I totally am not"

No one had told me anything, because I didn't speak to anyone but still if I did I suspected that they would have.

"Oh, they really didn't tell me anything. I don't really talk in class"

"Mhmm okay" the rest of the walk was quiet. When we made it to my house she looked either scared or excited. Her eyes widen when I opened the door.

"C'mon in" I walked in. She followed

"Wow this place looks old"

"Yeah. Do you want anything to drink or. . ."

"Nah I'm fine"

"Who's the person?"

I took out my cell phone and wrote; A girl from school. . .

He didn't respond back after. We walked up stairs to my room. I set my bag down at the door and sat down, she awkwardly sat in a spinny chair.

"So?" She asked

"What?"

"What do we do?"

"I don't know "

"Well as your new friend I say we go on the internet" she pointed to my laptop. I nodded my head yes.
