Stella POV

Boring, Oregon
September 27, 1996.

The scintillating sun beamed down on my olive skin, making me feel like as if I was wrapped in a cozy blanket during the cold nights.

I opened the double red doors that led inside Boring High School's halls. A hallway that held despondent and indolent kids, trapped inside by worn down red lockers, only getting to leave when told.

Unless they're troubled kids and they ditch that is.

The hallway was basically deserted, except for the two kids who sat down on the floor, leaned against the red lockers with Walkman headphones around their head, tapping their pencil along to the beat.

I walked further down the hallway to my homeroom class door. I entered and everyone turned their heads towards me, not giving me a double look over before turning back to the small tv screen that was placed in front of the desks.

I was late, like always, so no one was surprised. I looked around the packed classroom for an empty desk while twirling around the strap of my backpack around my fingers.

As I made eye contact with James, one of my best friends, I saw he had already saved a desk for me, waving his arms to get my attention.

I cracked a smile and made my way through the narrow lines of desk, pushing away someone's backpack that they left in the middle of the fucking floor, and sat down in front of James, turning my body over to face him.

"Good Morning, BHS. I'm Jessica Betts."

"And I'm Scott Pocket."

"Why are you always late?" James asked as he raised a comical brow. "It's barely the first week of our senior year!"

I placed my elbow on his desk to support my head as I laid my chin on my palm. "I just don't like school." I shrugged. "Besides, school starts way too early and homeroom is just so we can hear the stupid announcement and then get to class."

James smiled. "School is the bane of our days."

"Exactly." I grinned and turned back to face the small tv screen, leaning back in my seat. "Do you have a class with Ethan next hour?" I asked James over my shoulder. Ethan was my second best friend.

I had three. You'll meet the last one soon.

"Yeah, why?"

"Tell him I said, 'fuck off' okay?"

"You're both so weird."

A loud blaring sound made my classmates cover their ears as I just sighed to myself, rolling my eyes. It continued on for another fifteen seconds before it finally turned silent.

"And those are your morning announcements. Have a boring day." Jessica smiled tightly from the screen.

"Oh, I hope I do, Jessica," I mumble.
