Tranquil. Peaceful. Serene.
Those three words are what I would use to describe this crisp night as we all walked down the deserted road. The dazzling bright red 24-Hours sign placed above the small Gas Station nearby captured our attention, luring us towards it with our growling stomachs.
Crickets singed and cars roared in the distance. The laughter of my friends set me in a giggling state, I felt stress-free. Everyone did.
I was holding Oliver's hand, swinging it back and forth once in a while and our friend group was up ahead, jumping and running around as if they were monkeys.
James looked happy. His lips held a smile, his dimples popped out and his chest rumbled with a laugh to a joke Ethan had told him.
I twirled around a flashlight Oliver handed me in my free hand as we opened the doors to the gas station, a bell ringing over our heads to announce our presence.
"Snacks, here I come," Ethan yelled as he ran towards the back where chips were being placed by — doubtless — the owner.
I pulled Oliver towards the drinks, grabbing two water bottles for him and me, still tightly holding onto his hand. "You want anything else?" Oliver asked me as he looked around the small space. I shook my head and he nodded.
We walked over to the cash register, placing our drinks down and waited for our friends and the owner to pay. Ethan came towards us first, balancing sweets, chips, and drinks in his hands, making sure not to drop anything before throwing them on top of the counter, knocking our water bottles down.
James and Natalie also only got a couple of drinks, placing them down neatly, unlike some.
Oliver looked over at Ethan with a raised brow, which not gonna lie, was pretty hot. "Are you seriously gonna need all that?"
Ethan scoffed and crossed his arms over his chest. "I am a grown man." He looked over at Oliver, head to toe. "Unlike some." Oliver just rolled his eyes and pulled out his wallet.
Before he can take his money out, I snatched it away. "I'm paying." The owner finally came over and scanned the items which came out to a total of $40, thanks to Ethan.
I pulled out two twenties but Oliver scoffed. "Uh, no." He took back his wallet, letting go of my hand and pushed my money away.
Ethan sighed, rested his right elbow to support his head on the counter, and tapped his fingertips on the counter with a huge sigh. He looked over at the owner, "Couples. Am I right? Always doing this shit." The man just stared at Ethan with a blank expression, waiting for us to pay.
I felt my cheeks turn pink. "We're not dating." I shoved Ethan making him tumble. I quickly placed the $40 on the counter and Ethan smiled.
"Sure seems like it." He looked at me and at my money. "Let the gentleman pay." Ethan quickly grabbed my money off the counter and ran out of the gas station, laughing his ass off.
"Ethan!" I yelled and ran out after him, chasing him around the parking lot, threatening to cut his balls off if he doesn't give me my money back.
By the time I had tackled Ethan onto a random car parked outside, everyone else was outside holding bags of our snacks.
Ethan tried getting back up from the car to run off but I had slapped his cheek hard enough to make him fall back down onto the hood of the car. "Give me my money you thief!" I yelled trying to hold onto his hand that was clutching my $40.
"Stop yelling at me!" He cried out. "Help! Someone help me! She's crazy!" Ethan covered his face.
I heard James sigh deeply saying , "Kids."
