10. Sincerely, The daughter

I had to go to court again today. I think I had an outer body experience as I stared at my parents.

Both on opposite sides of the room, yelling over the sharp cut benches at one another. One demanding the family home, the other accusing them of physical abuse.

I sat in the uncomfortable wooden chair, eyes glazed and mouth partly ajar. Buttoned up blouse and checkered skirt constricting around my bones.

They weren't fighting over me, what would happen to me, who would love me. Wow... what a selfish thought.

They were fighting over things that would never last, that don't bring happiness.

On a lighter note,
No one called today. It's times like these that I feel strong enough to reject their offers.
Until they do call and my sand walls crumble.

Sincerely,
The daughter
