cutting heart- i think the author used the title cutting heart because it symbolized breaking of  heather and Melinda friendship. the fact that heather decided to cut Melinda off. At the same time its ironic because this chapter takes place during valentines day, a day of love and appreciation and this chapter it shows Melinda in someway wanted to be loved and that she cares if david actually liked her. its like she wanted him too and this was a new thing that was normal.

pruning-I feel as if the pruning of the tree can be related to many aspects of Melinda's life throughout the book. the dead limbs that restrain Melinda's growth as a person. The tree was damaged and needed help. Only by cutting off the diseased and damaged branches, could the tree grown again. as bad branches hurt it and make the whole tree  weaker. Towards the end of the book when Melinda stood up to Heather, she cut a branch unhealthy, unsupportive disease out of her life. Now, instead of having a "bad branch", she has room for a good one to grow in its place and after heater did that she was able get closure and not only move on but the get the voice to speak about what happened

chatroom-i feel the title chatroom symbolizes how student used the washroom stalls to communicate with each other anonymously like how people use online site to communicate with each other anonymously and when Melinda wrote on the stall she didn't expect anyone to support her or agree with her and when she saw that other people have gone through similar thing with the same guy and therefore that was a turning point Melinda realized that it wasn't her fault and in some way it made her to stop blaming herself and that turning point changed the story
