There was a loud knock on the bathroom door. "Autumn you've been in there for a while" Rebecca said "Are you okay?"
"Just fine!" Autumn yelled. She looked at herself in the mirror, her hair was completely back, but it was ten times shorter. Her hair was longer on the left, only slightly, it went down below her ear. The right side was a slight bit above her ear. It was thinner than the other side, the left side was more puffed up almost like a cloud. What did she do? Rebecca was going to have her head.
Autumn went to the cabinet grabbing another towel, she wrapped her hair in it, making the cut unnoticeable. Autumn walked out of the door with quick feet going to her room.
She got into her pajamas and started the routine of lying in bed and staring at the ceiling until she fell asleep. This night seemed restless. Her mom had to see her hair at some point, but what would she say when she did? Autumn got up and packed some clothes in a bag stuffing them into her backpack.
She got back onto her bed shutting her eyes hoping she could sleep.
The next morning Autumn put on her clothes and grabbed a hoodie from her closet, throwing the hood over her head. She walked out of her room her entire body shaking. She sat down at the kitchen table, a plate of hot eggs, toast, and bacon already waiting for her. She began eating as Rebecca sat down across from the table. She eyed Autumn, looking around her head. "Take that hood off you look like a thug." Rebecca said as she was beginning to take a bite out of her bacon.
Autumn ignored her command, she just sat there looking down at the table and eating. Rebecca's calm face turned into an annoyed one, she rolled her eyes. "Autumn, take the hood off." Her voice sounded hostile, rough. Autumn still ignored her, keeping her eyes glued to the table. Rebecca got up from her seat and walked over to Autumn. She grabbed the hood, along with a chunk of Autumns hair. Rebecca pulled the hood back with her hair as well. Autumn yelped in pain closing her eyes.
Rebecca yelled cursing at autumn. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOU HAIR? YOU MAKE ME WASTE ALL OF THAT MONEY FOR THIS? SO YOU CAN LOOK HORRIBLE AGAIN AND LOOK LIKE A LESBIAN?" Rebecca's throat was sore from the yelling. Autumn was holding back tears, even if she should be used to it by now. "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE" she yelled.
Autumn ran to her room grabbing her backpack, she threw it on and ran out the door. She ran all the way to school. It was a little hard to see, she has left at least 30 minutes earlier than usual and the sun was barely in the sky. Autumn sat down on the side of the school where her mom usually picked her up. Her lungs were in pain, she had never ran so fast or so far in one go.
Autumn got up and reached to open the school door, it was locked. She had never gotten to school before the bell rang. She heard the obvious clacks of someone hitting their heels on the pavement. It was Mrs. Jones.
"What are you doing here so early autumn?" She looked at her watch, then looked back at Autumn. "It's barely 7"
"I could ask you the same question" Autumn replied trying to come up with a good excuse. "I woke up at 5am and couldn't fall asleep..." She said "So I just thought I might as well come over."
"Interesting, I think you would stay at home the longest you could." Mrs. Jones paused. "You must've been cold" she said opening the door.
"It's April, almost may. Besides my ability could help if I get cold anyway."
"Ah, yes, well I hope you weren't trying to fool around, we have camera's y'know." Mrs. Jones laughed at her own 'joke'. "I'm only playing with you, I know you wouldn't do anything." Autumn awkwardly laughed with her. "It's like you're not trying to run away from home or anything either." She began to walk away. Autumn stood there with a blank expression on her face.
