Stiles didn't sleep much last night. He was constantly checking his phone for any word off Derek, but he got none - until about 7am this morning.
He was just waking up for school when he heard the door shut. He ran down the stairs to see Derek, his clothes clearly unwashed. He looked tired. Stiles could feel his worry and anger about to burst.
"Derek? Where the hell have you-"
"Please Stiles, don't start."
"Don't start?! You stood me up and then went missing! Do you know how worried i've been?!"
"Well I'm home now."
Stiles stood dumbfounded by Derek's behaviour.
"So...you went to New Mexico?" He took a different approach.
Derek remained partial to Stiles' words "mhm."
"Did you find Deucalion?"
"I wasn't looking for Deucalion."
"Then what were you doing in-"
"It doesn't matter. Stop with the questions."
"Are you serious?"
Derek gave him a 'do I look serious look', which was actually sort of terrifying. Stiles rolled his eyes, his lips pressed together. He was going to be late to school. Without speaking a word to Derek he picked up his bag and phone, promptly leaving in a huff of anger.
He pulled out his phone, calling Scott. Scenes from their argument flashed through his mind as he drove to meet Scott. They never argued, something was up with Derek, he could tell.
Scott met him in the car park, he could already tell Stiles was upset.
"He really went to New Mexico?" Scott asked as they walked through the school halls.
"He wouldn't tell me why, said it doesn't matter."
"He's clearly hiding something."
"We never hide things, you know...it's...it's just not us." Stiles sighed as they walked into English.
"Maybe he's protecting you."
"From what? Deucalion? That didn't turn out well last time."
Scott sat on his desk next to Stiles, "we'll find out some how."
Stiles nodded, pulling his pen out and clicking it to distract himself a little.
"Hey..." he heard someone whisper.
Stiles looked towards the hushed voice to see who it was. "Mason, hey."
"Nervous or something?" Mason gestured towards Stiles' irritable pen clicking.
"Uh, no, sorry" he chuckled, "just stressed."
"Exams are really close now huh?"
Stiles didn't know what to say, "yeah, I've hardly studied."
"We could maybe grab some food and i'll help you study? I mean - if you want. Actually just-"
"Yeah, yeah that'd be good" Stiles almost laughed at Masons rambling. It reminded him of himself at times.
"Meet you in the car park tonight?"
"Sure" Stiles smiled.
As the teacher entered the class room Stiles looked over to Scott, knowing he would already have his 'judging' face on him.
