Melissa's POV
No way! Mom didn't pick me up yet. She's an hour late!
The band teacher was trying to help me find a ride, since he's staying late and he was unable.
There was one car left in the lot, the teacher and I waited for the owner of the vehicle to come forward and see If they were able to help me home.
The car beeped and I jumped to see-
No way.
"Hello,Sir,"my teacher greeted the boy.
"Hey,"Derek nodded unlocking the driver side of the car.
"This girl here needs a ride home, think you could give her a lift?"
Derek shrugged,"Sure."
I sighed with relief and I hopped in the passenger side.
It was really clustered with garbage in the car.
"Seatbelt,"he ordered.
I obeyed and he sped out if the lot onto the main road.
"I need to make a quick stop before dropping you off,"Derek informed.
"Okay."
He glanced at me then went back to looking at the road. He turned into a development then a dark back road.
Driving for a minute or two,we came to a halt. Derek unbuckled his seatbelt and started to get out of the car.
"Stay."
He shut the door and walked into an alleyway.
After that he disappeared into the darkness only to return with a jar.
"What's that?"I asked as he got into the car.
"Nothing." and we set off again.
"Where do you live?"he asked.
The fact that he didn't tell me what that jar was made me prissy.
"Nowhere,"I huffed.
"If you don't tell me where you live I'll assume you live on the street and I'll kindly drop you off here,"he looked at me and smiled.
My eyes drooped and I looked at his lips. Would I love to kiss-
He slammed on his breaks.
We both fell forward and I stared in shock.
Derek punched the horn numerous times at the driver in front of us. They honked back and stuck their middle finger out the window.
"You wanna go?!"Derek yelled.
He unbuckled his seatbelt and jumped out of the car.
The unknown driver got out and they started to shove each other.
I climbed out of the car and pulled Derek away,"Hey!! I really need to get home."
He grunted and gave the guy he was shoving a death look.
We were in the middle of the road and a few cars honked and cursed at us.
"Let's go,"I nudged him.
***
Turns out I don't live too far from Derek.
He dropped me off still pissed off at that careless driver.
Down the road he went and I stood there gazing after him.
Boy he really got me.
My mom ran out of the house and hugged me tight.
"I'm sorry I had to work late! How was band?" she stepped back and examined me.
"Great,"I grinned sheepishly.
"Aw,I'm glad you had fun. Come eat dinner,"she pulled me into the house.
Before entering the kitchen,I looked at my appearance in the hall mirror.
My blonde curls seemed perfect, a bit deranged though. I had more skin color, thank you sun.
I looked good, was there anything that Derek found wrong?
My makeup wasn't smeared...
There's nothing in my teeth...
No boogers...
What was it??
After dinner, which was macaroni and meatloaf, I showered and brushed my teeth.
I grabbed my brother's yearbook and gazed at that picture to make sure it would be refreshed and perfected behind my eyelids.
I fell asleep holding that book tight.
