Melissa's POV
I guess mom is working late tonight,because again I was left waiting. And the lot was empty,except for that green jeep.
I let out a big breath of air and trotted across the lot,waiting by the car.
Derek showed up,finally.
He was really sweating and he looked at me with exhaust in his eyes.
"What's up?"he said unlocking the door.
"Take me home."
He laughed,"What do you say?"
"Please?"I asked.
He smiled and said,"No."
"Pleeeaasse??"I begged.
"Why can't you bug someone else?"Derek asked throwing his stuff in the backseat.
"I don't know. Cause you're the target of annoying this month. Plus,you said you would explain,"I replied.
"Get in,"he murmured.
I rolled my eyes and got in the passenger side.
Rather than driving me home he drove elsewhere,again.
"Where to now?"I asked.
His eyes were locked to the road,no response.
After a while of driving I found he was headed to the lake.
It was silent there as always. Private and peaceful.
Derek cut the engine and turned towards me.
"So,where to begin?" he asked rhetorically.
"What's that list from?"
"A private lab,"he answered.
"Where?"
"Don't know,I'm blindfolded on the way there."
"What are the items for?"
"The experiments. There are people there who are tested on. Being genetically changed and altered into a different race."
"Different race?"
Derek nodded and said,"A perfect race."
I shrugged. "Okay,so why are you involved?"
"I don't know. They grabbed a hold of me last year and when I disobeyed,I was beaten up. So now I do anything they tell me. But look,you HAVE to keep this a secret. If you don't they'll find you and hurt you."Derek explained.
"Ok,I swear to keep it secret."
"Anything else?"he wondered.
"Perfect race?"
"The world is about to end and there is a new race that is supposed to replace ours."
I gulped and my throat felt constricted.
"Excuse me for a second,"I said unbuckling my seat belt.
I got out of the car and I started to head towards the lake. It was about twilight now so the water was a welcoming gray.
I pulled my electronics out of my pockets and dropped them on the grass by the water.
I leaped in,head under and felt the cold water pull me away.
I swam far just because. It was relaxing even though I just heard that I wouldn't be around long.
There was a drop from shallow to deep which caught me by surprise.
Choking on the water I looked up to see Derek jumped in too.
One thing for sure,I'd tell him how I feel before I die.
