Chapter 3

30 minutes since outbreak

"What was all that about dude?!" Yelled Andy,

"Yeah what happened back there?!" Chipped in Sophie. We were near the horse race tracks.

"You won't believe me." I whispered.

"Tell us now!" Demanded Sophie. I went and sat down on a rock.

"I saw it all happen before it did, ok!" I said.

"What do you mean?" Questioned Andy.

"You know when I fall asleep in history?"

"Yeah."

"Well I had a dream of us going to town and someone spilled their coffee on you then a explosion went off, and everything was the same." I finished. They both stared at me if I was crazy "It's the truth!" I looked up to the sky and some a lot more smoke then before.

"We need to move on." I said, "I need to see if my mom is ok." I got on the stolen bike and noticed a black backpack. I opened the backpack and inside was: a wallet, a jumper, a lighter and... a knife.

"Sorry for stealing your stuff." I checked the wallet. "Samuel Johns." I whispered to myself.

"Are we going?" Quietly asked Sophie.

"Yes." I answered back.

1 and a half hours since outbreak

It started to get dark when we reached home. We stopped outside my house.

"The lights are on, so that's a good sigh." Andy said, trying to cheer me up.

We walked up to the front door and I reached for door handle but stopped when out from the corner of my eye, I saw that some of the stuff inside was broken.

"Something's not right?" I whispered. I went back to the bike and grabbed the knife from inside the bag.

"Where did you get that?" Asked Andy.

"I'll tell you later." Putting the knife in my pocket. I looked inside and saw someone with their back to us. This person was moving as if the right leg was retarded or something. I opened the door as quietly as I could and we all entered. I could hear that the radio was on and that the stranger was in the kitchen. I looked around the corner to see where it was.

'If I go in the lounge room then sneak up on it, I might be able to stun it.' I thought to myself.

I crawled to the lounge room quietly, waited then I signal the others to let them know that it was safe. I got up and tipped toed over to the thing. As I got closer I heard that the stranger was making a clicking noise with its mouth. I grabbed the knife from my pocket and lifted it above my head with both hands and jammed it into its heart! The stranger uttered a cry of pain which was more animal than human. The stranger turned around quickly (too quick for me to see who it was) and jumped at me! It landed on top of me hard and tried to bite me! I pushed against the stranger but it kept on trying to bite me.

"Dude!" Andy yelled and came charging over. He tried to push the thing off me but that just made it more anger. Andy pulled the knife out of the thing and tried to stab it again but it jumped at him. Andy dropped the knife and the thing bit him on the shoulder! Andy started screaming. I ran over and picked up the knife and jammed into the thing's head. It made a disturbing popping sound as I entered its head. It uttered a cry of pain and fell on top of Andy.

"HELP ME!" Screamed Andy. I saw that Andy's left shoulder had really deep bite marks and that it was bleeding non-stop. I ran over to the kitchen cabinets and searched in the second cabinet. I found the first aid kit. "Found it!" I ran over to Andy.

I grabbed the bandages and the tape from the kit. "Sophie go and get my mum's paw-paw cream and the bottle of alcohol from her room and hurry!" I demand. Sophie ran off to fetch the stuff.

Andy started swearing, "It's going to be okay Andy, hurry Sophie!" Sophie reappeared with them. "Here!" I grabbed the alcohol first and put some on a cloth. I smeared it on the bite marks.

"This might string a little." I spread the cream on Andy's arm and he started swearing. I lifted up his shoulder and quickly warped the bandage around. The blood soaked the bandage but it slowed the blood loss. I grabbed the tape and wrapped it around his arm. I knew that the blood would keep on pouring out so I decided to see if Dr. Jordan (he lives next door.) was home.

"Help me get Andy up off the floor." I said to Sophie.

"We need to get him over to Dr. Jordan." I pushed my arms under his back and Sophie got under his arms. We got him up and Sophie helped him to the front door. I was about to leave but I noticed something on the thing that attacked us. On its wrist I saw a turtle charm bracelet that looked like the one I gave as a gift to mum on her 30th.

'It must have took it from her.' I thought. I walked over to the thing and grabbed the knife and pushed it in deeper just to be on the safe side. I pulled the knife out and cleaned it on my shirt. I saw that a big bite marked had been left on the things right arm.

'It looks like a dog bite, but it's all blistered and everything?' I thought to myself. I placed my foot on its head and rolled it over. What I saw sacred my mind forever. What I saw was a person but its face was twisted and had flesh coming off it. This person was someone I loved very much. Her hair was soaked in blood and some had fell out. I wiped away a tear and went to the front door. I picked up the keys that was sitting on the table. I shut the door and locked it. I saw a bunch of flowers outside and went over and gathered them. I placed them on the doormat.

I gripped the charm bracelet in my hand, "I'm really sorry that I wasn't there for you and I hope that you can forgive me." I wiped away a bunch of tears and I said my last words, "You were the one who cared and loved for me the most and I'm sorry... R.I.P mum."
