I had begun working as a lifeguard at Bondi beach three months ago and I thought I had been fitting in well until, actually no I knew I was fitting in well until I became involved with Jesse Pollock. That's where things started to go wrong for me, the minute I met him. I met Jesse about a week into working on Bondi when we were placed on shift together, I immediately felt drawn to him and I had thought that the feeling was mutual as he had asked me on a date two weeks later. For the date he took me surfing at Tamarama beach, it was my first time going there and I have to see that it was the most amazing surfing experience that I had ever had...mainly as it was with him. Things were going well between us until one day he began ignoring me, the only time he speaks to me anymore is when we are forced to communicate over the radio's in work. 

And that's how it began, I don't know why it happened but one day he just stopped talking to me. I was sat in the Rhino watching the water at the south corner of Bondi, when over the radio I heard Kerrbox directing Jesse to the south corner for his shift in order to back me up if I needed it. We sat silently next to each other for about an hour before my radio went off "(Y/N), I need you to come back to the tower for me" Hoppo, our bosses voice came through "on my way" I responded before driving the Rhino up to the tower and throwing Jesse the keys without even glancing back, knowing that he would have gone back to his post on the south corner. 

"What's going on?" I asked Hoppo as I reached the tower, "we've had reports of something floating off the rocks, you're gonna go on the ski with Gonzo and I'll back up" he explained handing me a life jacket. We drove the ski's down the beach nearer to the south corner before we got them in the water and drove off towards the rocks. "What's going on?" I heard Jesse's voice over the radio but ignored it as I was driving the jet ski knowing that one of the others would have answered him. As we got closer I started getting a sudden feeling of dread "something's doesn't feel right Hoppo" I said over the radio to knowing that he wouldn't be able to hear me if I shouted "I know" his voice barely a whisper over the radio. "What's going on guys?" Kerrbox asked over the radio "were almost there" Gonzo responded.

Once we had got to the area I could clearly see that there was a man, fully dressed floating in the water. "I'll go" I said knowing that Gonzo had never been involved in a situation like this as he was new to the job. I jumped of the jet ski and swam over to the deceased man, moving him so that he was on the float on the back of the ski, as I was doing this I could hear Hoppo saying that this was a recovery over the radio. "Right guys, you're going to have to wait about an hour for air rescue to come" Kerrbox announced "well that's just wonderful" I sarcastically responded.

Forty Minutes Later

"Guys I need you all to be in a position where you are completely out of the water" Kerrbox's voice came through the radio "why?" I asked him confused "are you all out of the water? because air rescue is telling us that there's a shark circling you" he announced "what?" I asked my voice barely a whisper "air rescue is telling me that there's a shark and that one of you is still in the water, I don't know which one of you it is but you need to get out" Kerrbox rushed out. "oh god okay" I said to myself before beginning to manoeuvre my way onto the ski without letting the man go. I was stood on the side of the ski about to sit down when the ski began rocking causing me to fall off the side. 

I screamed as I fell into the water knowing that there was a shark, I tried to get to the surface as quickly as possible. When I surfaced I could see Gonzo reaching out to grab my arm, he pulled me up onto the ski as Hoppo began to use the radio "WERE COMING BACK TO THE BEACH NOW GET AN AMBULANCE" he screamed as they both started up the ski's. Hoppo had attached the deceased man to his ski via the ropes so that we were able to get him back to the beach as well. "Why do we need an ambulance? it's a recovery" I stated confused as I held onto Gonzo as he sped back to the beach. 

When we reached the beach everyone was stood waiting for us and I could see paramedics making their way towards "what's going on?" the boys asked as we all got off the ski's. As I stood up I started getting a sick feeling in my stomach, the water I was stood in was about knee deep and I looked down towards my feet as I attempted to steady myself on the ski. When I looked down I immediately saw red "what the fu-" I cut myself off as my vision began to blur "(Y/N)" I heard but it seemed so distant, I felt arms wrap around me as my vision became darker and darker until I felt myself falling to the ground.

Two Weeks Later

*beep*  *beep*  *beep*

I could hear machines beeping around me, I slowly began to open my eyes seeing an intensely bright white light. My eyes were watering slightly as I opened them completely seeing a hospital room. A doctor walked in, "ah miss (L/N), you're awake" he smiled as I looked around the room, furrowing my brow in confusion when I spotted Jesse's sleeping figure on a chair in the corner. "He's been here the whole time you were out" the doctor said following my eyes to look at Jesse "he really cares about you, hasn't left once" he told me causing even more confusion "he hasn't spoken to me in months" I spoke in a confused tone "I would never have guessed that, he arrived in the ambulance with you, almost caused a fight when you went into surgery" the doctor chuckled. "Surgery?" I asked even more confused "what happened?" I asked the doctor.

"What do you remember?" he asked me, I thought for a second before answering "there was a recovery at Bondi" the doctor nodded at my response "anything else?" he asked to which I shook my head "you were involved in a shark attack (Y/N), we almost lost you for a second but you put up a good fight" he explained as I looked down at myself as he began explaining where my injuries were

Once the doctor had left, as if on cue Jesse began to wake up, he looked over to me before doing a double take and rushing over "you're awake" he exclaimed, "you're talking to me" I whispered back causing him to sigh "I'm sorry" he said "what exactly did I do to make you stop talking to me Jesse?" I asked him "nothing" he stated "What?" I asked "I care about you (Y/N)" he started causing me to smile before he continued "but I can't afford to" it was at this point that I began to tear up "I'm not good (Y/N), I'm not a good person and I know that I'm not good enough for you and I knew that if we got together, one day you were going to realise that and then you would leave me" he explained as he gripped tightly onto my hand.

 "Jesse" I started but he shook his head "I'm not good enough for you (Y/N)" he repeated breaking down into tears, I sat up to comfort him wincing as I did. As soon as I was sat upright Jesse had sat himself on the edge of the bed pulling me into his grasp. "Jesse" I spoke again pulling away causing him to look down at his lap "Jesse, look at me" I spoke gently placing my hand on his cheek, wiping my tears with my thumb smiling weakly at him. "You are good enough, Jesse. You have always been good enough, from the moment I met you I knew that I needed you. Jesse I-" he cut me off quickly pressing his lips onto mine. 

The kiss began soft and gentle before he deepened it, running his tongue along my bottom lip before gaining entrance. Our tongues fought for dominance as we kissed passionately before we both slowly pulled away "I'm in love with you (Y/N), I knew from the moment that I first saw you that you were the one for me and that you were good for me, I think you make me a better person (Y/N)" He explained whilst caressing my cheek with his hand. I grinned back at him pecking his lips once more.

"I love you too"
