The Chase

*BEEP BEEP BEEP*

Monica POV

I woke up to the sound of my alarm. Ugh, I hated mornings with a passion. I had no choice but to get up though, it was that or I hear my mom's complaining all day. And that, was something I wasn't tryna deal with.  So, I went to the bathroom to go through my hygiene routine. When I got out, I got dressed and went down to the kitchen to get a granola bar. I wasn't hungry enough for a whole extravagant meal, I ain't have enough time for that anyways. " See ya ma " I yelled as I walked out the door. I walked down the street to my black Dodge Charger.

I got in and put the address of my school in my GPS.

*50 minutes later*

I approached the big building and pulled over on the side of the street and parked. It was a lot of space there. When I walked up to the front door, I was greeted by a middle aged white lady. She introduced herself as Ms. Jackson. She asked me what grade I was going to and I told her twelfth. Then, she sent me upstairs to room 304. When I walked into the room, it was filled with kids around my age or a little older. I sat in the corner and waited for a teacher to come into the room and tell up what's up. I transferred here from my last school in Baltimore. My mom got a job offer here as a professor so we had to move.  As a side hustle, she was also a lawyer. We could've had the support from my dad if he would've never left us for a guy he met on Tinder. It's whatever though, what goes around comes around right? He got what's coming to him. Ain't nobody stressing over that man. 

*25 minutes later*

Finally, a teacher came into the room and introduced himself as Mr. Jordan. And ooh child let me tell you, that man was a full course meal 😍😍😍 OMGG .  He droned on talking about how everything was basically the same as my last school. Finally, after about 30 minutes he finished and said or was time to go. As I was walking back to my car, some boy that looked to be the same age as me decided to spark up a conversation and I wasn't really in the mood to talk. If only I had in my earphones.
"Hey, you're new right ? I don't think I've seen you here before." he said. "That's cause I wasn't here, I was out of the state." I replied trying to get in my car. "You trying to get rid of me that fast? What I do wrong?" he chuckled. "Sorry but I really have things to do, I'll see you in 2 weeks." "Alright, ima let you go but my name is Cameron. Look for me when you get back aight?" "Sure, my name is Monica" He let me get in my car and he was smiling as I drove off.
He was kinda cute but I wasn't really looking for a relationship at the time. I had a pretty bad experience from my old school. I was just tryna finish this last year of high school and move on with my life. I finally got home and went to the kitchen. I saw a note on the fridge from my mom saying she was at work and she wouldn't be back until 9. I got a hot pocket and watched some Netflix.
*One week later*
It was Monday and school started next week. My mom and I tend to do things a little last minute, so it was no surprise that we waited the week before to GI school shopping. We made a stop at Staples for my supplies before going to Bay Plaza for everything else. I kid you not, we probably spent over $5000. I ordered my backpack online so we didn't have to worry about that. When we left Bay Plaza we went to my bank so that my mom could give me my credit card for the year like she did for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. She made up this thing where I get a credit card for the entire school year and she adds 5K to it every year. This year I was getting $20K!
*The night before*
It's 11:30pm and I'm packing my bag for school. When I'm done with that, I lay out my outfit for the next day and stay up all night on my phone because I can't sleep. I don't know what it is, but every time it's the night before the first day of school I can't sleep. So I stay up all night listening to music, scrolling through Instagram and Twitter, watching YouTube videos, and watching Netflix. I've been like that since I was little, I always thought it would go away but it never did.
*6:00 am*
My alarm woke me up, the first thing I noticed is that I fell asleep watching music videos. 🤷🏾‍♀️ oh. I got up and went to the bathroom to take a shower and wash my hair. Then, I went to my room and got ready. I waited until it was 7:30 to leave so I checked my Snapchat to return the streaks. It was finally time to go so I grabbed my charger, my phone, my earphones, and my bag. I went downstairs and saw a note from my mom saying good luck and stuff like that with my credit card and $40. I put everything in my pocket. When I drove up to the school, I parked my car and went across the street to the bodega. I asked the guy for a bacon, egg, and cheese. I tried it a few weeks ago and fell in love. Then, I went and got a water bottle. Finally, the guy was done making my sandwich and I paid for my stuff. I walked into my classroom and there he was, the boy from orientation. I went and sat next to him since he was the closest thing I had to a friend. "Wassup" "Uh... hey. Do I know you?" "I'm Cameron..." "Doesn't ring a bell." "You funny" "I try." We talked until the teacher" came in and made all the new kids introduce themselves.
*fast forward*
So it's lunchtime and I'm with Cameron. He's funny and laid back at the same time. He's good vibes, nice to be around. I can see us being good friends.
*6 months later*
"I'm pregnant..." "You deadass?" "Yeah..." "Shit..." "What you mean 'shit' ? You was fucking me raw, and you know what that can lead to." "Aye, I ain't disappointed. I just want you to be able to finish school and shit like that. You feel me?" "Aww that's sweet of you but I can take online classes for college and finish high school as a homeschooled kid.  It'll work out." "Ight baby, I love you." "I love you too." So, Cameron and I have been dating for 4 and a half months. I'm pregnant with his first child. My mom was very supportive so that makes everything easier on me. When I got home, I turned on the news and I was shocked by what I saw. Cameron had just got arrested to the possession of an illegal firearm. O felt my heart drop...
