I took deep breathes, trying to calm myself, much to no avail. Sweat rolled down my forehead and my hands were shaking.
“Well? What are you waiting for? Get on with it.” I heard a voice snap behind me and I closed my eyes and sighed. I was suddenly pushed forward and hit the ground with a forceful impact. I tried to lift myself up but my face was pushed into the ground. The foot on top of my head grinded my face into the ground.
“Oh come on! I thought your name meant courageous! Where’s all your courage now? You coward!” He yelled before pulling me up by taking the back of my shirt. I stumbled forward when they pushed me.
“What are you still doing here? Go get it!” I wanted to turn around and shove him back, but I wasn’t that brave. So instead, I just walked, sort of jogged, in to the ‘haunted’ house. This house is at the end of London. It is said that people drive up to this house and just…disappear. I was unfortunate enough to walk past this house on my daily stroll, and even more when there were five boys from school playing near here. They were playing baseball and one of the boys accidently hit the ball to hard and it flew right through the window. Then they saw me, and now they’re forcing me to go get it for them. I slowly turned the knob and peaked inside. It was dark, with only the sun shining through dusty windows to lit the hallway.
“Hurry up with it then!” I heard a shout behind me. I pushed open the door and entered. I closed the door behind me. It didn’t look as creepy as I thought it would. I didn’t want to stay here for long though, so I immediately went up the stairs. The floor was creaky as I walked. I was still shaking, afraid of something popping out at random. I went to the room I though the ball would’ve landed in and slowly opened the door, the creaking louder than the floor. The first thing I saw when I entered the room was the broken glass and the baseball, the light shining on it. I opened the door fully and then I saw the rest of the room. There were three statues in the room. All of angels with their hands covering their eyes. I frowned at them as I made my way over to the baseball. Ok, creepy. I slowly bend down and picked it up, still watching them. I looked down at the baseball and blew off the dust. I stood up and looked back at the angels. They’ve moved… I wanted to scream, but I was frozen. One of the angels were now turned to the wall, looking as if it’s pounding on the wall. The other was on its knees, head down so that her hair hung over her entire face. The last one was standing right in front of me, hands out and together, like someone would beg. I looked into its hands and saw a small rock, about the size of a golf ball. However it looked more like cement over something. I rubbed it, some of the dust remaining on my fingers. I was confused and scared. When I looked up again, the three angels were in their original position as I had seen them again. I started breathing heavily as I stared at them. How? How did they just move like that? And what is this weird rock thing? Why did one angel look calm and gave me this while the other two looked to be in pain?
I didn’t wonder about it anymore, because I ran out the room and down the stairs. I threw open the door and ran.
“Hey! Did you get-!?” One of the boys started but I interrupted by throwing the baseball into his stomach, earning a pained grunt. I ran off of the estate and down the road. Tears started to fall as I ran. Everything that I saw was a lie. They didn’t move, they were only statues! This was some sick joke the boys pulled on me! The rock was clutched inside my fist. I don’t know why I didn’t discard it though. Maybe because I was curious. Maybe this could be something new. Or maybe I was just walking into a massive prank. Maybe I was walking into my own demise.
My running slowed until I came to a stop on the pavement. I dropped to my knees, my long black hair covering my face, just like the angel had been. My tears were soon greeted with the rain from above. Maybe I’m totally over exaggerating about the entire situation, bit there’s a certain aspect I only noticed now. Those angels… I’ve seen them before. Many times before. Like they’re following me. At my school outside, outside the museum, in the park… And all this time, they had been alive…
