Chapter Six: Damn Jaw Dropping Fridays
My morning went by as normally as all my other mornings would have. I had gotten up, attempted to do a few sit-ups but quickly gave up after just two and a half seconds, gotten through my morning necessities and trudged begrudgingly down the stairs for breakfast.
Munching away at a plateful of blueberry pancakes topped with whip cream and drowning in chocolate syrup, Faye had told me all about my parents plans on coming back for a full two month Holiday sometime soon.
Oh joy.
Typical, the same promises with empty essence. They could have at least tried a little harder to make an effort.
Pushing the thought out of my mind, I then proceeded to restock my bag with a few bars of Vitamin H whenever Faye wasn't looking. A few months back, she had thrown out a whole bunch of my precious baby bars to help me with a diet I had eventually given up on after 16 days. My love of food was just too much to conquer.
But, since my family had a history of diabetes, she made me cut down on my sweets intake. We then ended up compromising on what I could keep and what I had to give up instead of going on a hardcore diet. I had given up a whole lot of other sweet treats just so she could allow me to keep my stash of Hershey bars.
With my morning routine checked and accomplished for the particular day, I headed off to school and sent Evan a text that Mr Fern and I were on our way to pick him up.
He was the only new addition to my everyday cycle. Aside from that, nothing else had changed.
Same passive routine, just a different day.
Or so I had thought.
As soon as I had entered the school premises, the entire student body had stopped whatever they were doing and turned to look at both Evan and I but mostly at me. Call it instinct but I swore they were distinctively looking at me.
Their gazes weren't out of curiosity though, it was made out of something else. Something I had grown accustomed to for pretty much the whole entirety of my life.
Judge-mentality.
Their gazes echoed it out. It was as if they were practically taunting me with those penetrating gazes telling me that they knew something about me that I had no idea of.
Frozen in spot, it took a few nudges from Evan to wake me up from the sudden daze. I had completely forgotten all about him being there had he not made himself known.
Cautiously, I took careful steps towards both Evan and I's lockers while peeking every once in a while at everyone else that were casually hanging around the other lockers. I focused entirely on placing one foot in front of the other so I wouldn't stumble or trip along the way to make an even bigger fool of myself.
Better safe than never especially for someone as disaster prone as me.
"It's either you or me, Sav."
"Hmmm?" was the only response I could fathom towards Evan, mindlessly grabbing whatever I needed for the day.
I heard Evan slam his locker shut before saying, "Okay, look at me."
Wow he moves fast. "Hm 'kay," quickening my pace, I quickly began stuffing what was left to grab before slamming my own locker shut.
I pivoted myself towards the right and came face to face to Evan looking down at me, his face merely inches apart.
Talk about awkward.
Well, he wasn't actually looking at me but just at a part of my face, my nose to be exact. For what reason? I had no clue.
